SEO: Enter a reasonable description there including a good URL
Example (Wine):
Page Title: Buy Arndorfer, Riesling Strasser Weinberge (2018) White Wine - Threes Brewing
Format = "Buy" + "Product Name" "- Threes Brewing"
Description: Arndorfer, Riesling Strasser Weinberge (2018) White Wine is available for delivery or shipping to New York, Kentucky, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington D.C. and other select states.
Format = "Product Name" "is available for delivery or shipping to" [approved state list leading with New York and followed by alphabetical listing] "and other select states".
Note: Approved state list updated 2/19/21.
Every new product in Shopify or Square should be Tax Exclusive (not Tax Inclusive), meaning that if the beer costs $9, the customer pays $9 + tax, for a total of $9 + ($9 * 8.875%) = $9.80.
Other guidelines:
Be careful when choosing which product to duplicate. If you duplicate one with a subscription, the new product includes a subscription. I'm still trying to figure out how to remove that.
Preview the product and collection pages. That way you'll know what the public will see. The product doesn't need to be published to see the product page.
Marketing translates the data into our public narrative and owns the product page.
Make sure the weight is accurate.
Mark it a physical product if we need to ship or deliver it.
These rules apply to ReCharge subscription products, tastings, every product in shopify.
For Prepaid Subscriptions, you have to remove "Auto Renew" from the title of the shadow products created by ReCharge
The following convention must be adhered to on all beer products:
Beer Name Format <br> Beer Style // e.g.: Vliet 4-pack <br> Pilsner
The format for descriptions can be found on our product pages like this one for Logical Conclusion. The method is:
Style - for Threes made beer
x.x% ABV
Tasting Notes: Descriptive, Funny, Playful, Weird
Made with hops, specific malt, other ingredient notes
x X vessel oz
Anecdotes about the beer (only, if applicable).
Style - for 3rd party beer
Write "Short" Style name in Parenthesis. Save/move additional descriptive copy (e.g. Fruited Sour is a Fruited Sour in the name, and it's Fruited Sour with Peach and Plum in the description)
Write out the word "with" in those description lines (vs. "w/")
Leave a space/press return and then put all of the 3P beer descriptions AFTER the package size. Esp. if it's long. You can leave a line after the style name for a short description, e.g.: if hops should be called out.
As of July 2020, we've begun to include one sentence about the brewery. Start a new paragraph and place this sentence AFTER the beer description (if there is one).
New suppliers/breweries (we've never previously carried): James will originate this sentence for any new suppliers/breweries we carry moving forward.
Existing suppliers/breweries: Duplicate an existing Shopify entry from this brewery which includes the bio line for ease.
Product photographs for beer follow two separate paths, depending on whether it's a beer made by Threes Brewing or a third party. In either instance, click "Add media" to upload files to the product page.
Threes: all approved photos live in the drive (note: we are reorganizing the library, but will update this link then)
Third party: Gretchen, our resident staff photographer, take a picture with a 2500 x 2500 image with a transparent background
After the price is set, enter the dollar amount into the "Price" field
For Threes, do not enter the cost unless you have been directed by Josh.
For Third Party, James enters the unit prices, reflecting actual costs.
Check the "Charge tax on this product button"
The first time we're uploading:
Leave the fields for Stock Keep Unit (SKU) and Barcode blank for Threes, unless under the direction of Josh / Cindy.
For Third Party, enter a random SKU number for all new items and leave the barcode section blank.
Select Track Quantity
Under Edit Locations, enter the precise # of each product in Gowanus and Greenpoint
Only BevOps or someone under their guidance is authorized to update this section
BevOps will monitor and manage inventory as necessary
Check the "This is a physical product box" and then enter the weight
500ml bottle = 2 lbs
750ml bottle = 3.6 lbs
12oz can 4-packs = 3.4 lbs
16oz can 4-packs = 4.5 lbs
500ml bottle 12-pack case = 25.3 lbs
750ml bottle 12-pack case = 44 lbs
16oz can 24-pack case = 27 lbs
These are the most important "hidden" attributes on the pages, since Collections & Tags help our get discovered by users and staff alike. They feed the various site navigation, filters and visibility toggles the system offers. They are mission critical, but entering is easy:
Collections
All beer goes under BEER
The order of operations for how to organize the BEER collection is as follows in terms of priority from high-to-low
Threes Cans (lighter style to more complex style)
Threes Bottles (500ml to 750ml)
Threes Bundles
Vliet 24pks Bundle
Logical 24pks Bundle
Rotating 24pks Bundle
Vliet / Logical 24pk Bundle
Mixed Lager Bundle
Mixed Hoppy Bundle
Third Party Beer (Organized Alphabetically by Brewery)
Cider = CIDER
Wine = WINE
Glasses = DRINKWARE
Clothing = APPAREL
Other = ACCESSORIES (if not sure, ask Josh or Jared)
Vendor
Threes beer = THREES BREWING
Third party = BREWERYNAME (e.g. ALLAGASH) - if brewery doesn't exist add it when prompted to "+add ALLAGASH")

Collections are based on tags usually, so you need to tag according to the Collection you want the product to be in

This is only applicable for things we are selling multiple sizes of (Tees, single cans vs. 4-packs, for example). Select "add variant" and be sure to use the correct title and add in the different price (if it is a 4-pack for example). Then, reorder the variants. Whichever is listed first will appear first in the list on the product page.
SEO means Search Engine Optimization (aka making sure our pages are found in search engines). We're writing titles and descriptions in a very deliberate manners, since this is often our first impression for many customers. The format is:
Buy Beer Name (Style) - Threes Brewing
Example:
Buy Tempting Fate (Pale Ale) - Threes Brewing
As for the URL, that's the field at the bottom of all of the product pages. It's simple, but important to simply add beer name-style. For example:
tempting fate will = https://shop.threesbrewing.com/collections/beer/products/tempting-fate-pale-ale
For 3rd Party Beer
Make sure that even if the beer is a 3P beer (e.g. it's not a Threes Beer), there is always "- Threes Brewing" in the page title. This is important for search ranking.
Important Note: when you "duplicate" other product listings, all of the attributes including SEO and URL will get brought over. It is critical that you go through all these steps before adding a new product.
For Wine
The website SEO Description should be entered as follows:
Buy X Wine from Threes Brewing.
Where X is the name and style of the wine, e.g. "ES Okay 2019 Orange Wine"
1) Click "Product Availability" and remove "Facebook", "Instagram, "Google" and "Point of Sale", but leave the others
2) Remove the tags "Beer on Website" and "Point of Sale - Visible" from the product page.
3) Copy & paste the bolded text below at the very top of the main product description, including the line break after. Note: the link should copy & paste, but just in case, it goes to the main beer page.
THIS PRODUCT IS CURRENTLY SOLD OUT. VISIT OUR BEER PAGE TO SEE WHAT STYLES ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.
_______________________________________________
4) Confirm inventory is 0 in all locations. This is critical or the product can be sold if someone finds it.
5) Preview page and make sure it looks ok.
6) Save and publish.
7) Earn clicks from Google and elsewhere, even though our products are out of stock.
1) Click "Product Availability" and add Google Shopping & POS back on.
2) Add the tag "Beer on Website" and "Point of Sale - Visible" on to the product page, this activates it on the website and for the POS terminals.
3) Re-Add "BEER" as product type. That will make it discoverable in the site navigation from the beer page, filters, etc.
4) Remove "THIS PRODUCT IS CURRENTLY SOLD OUT" copy.
5) Update inventory to whatever levels we are stocking at.
6) Preview page and make sure it looks ok.
7) Save and publish.
8) Sell product.
For creating or adding new filters (the sortable pulldowns on the beer pages), you just add a new tag to the product as follows:
Style: Dark Beer (tags are case sensitive and Style must have a colon and then a space after it)
Size: 32oz (where after Size: ___ there is the new size if adding a size)
The collection filter will parse for those prefixes and automatically add them to the lists
