Allen + Heath ZED10 Mixer
MMX225 Zone Distributor
Allen + Heath ZED10 Mixer
We have set this mixer up to have dedicated channels for DJs, TV, iPad.
In looking at the channels left to right, the first Channels 1-3 are for DJs -- 2 for DJ SetUp, 1 for a mic (if they want it)
Channel 4 is for TV/Cable
Channel 5 is for iPad
If you want sound from any of these channels, make sure the red dials at the bottom of the row are turned up to at least the 12 noon position. Any channels you are NOT using should be turned down completely (all the way to the left).
All of these channels run through the MMX225 Zone Distributor. This distributor runs sound to different areas of our venue, you’ll see the zones clearly labeled (Main Bar, Brewery, Outside, Tiny, etc.)
To play music from the iPad
First, switch the zone distributor ON, wake up the ipad, and turn the distributor for the Booths ON (this distributor is the silver box at the bottom of the cabinet -- when it’s switched ON, you’ll see a blue light).
Select the music/playlist you want to play from spotify -- press play.
On the Allen + Heath ZED10 mixer, turn the red dial at the BOTTOM of the row labeled iPad clockwise to 12noon
Then, on the zone distributor, turn the dial on the left clockwise to the volume you prefer, in the ‘zone’ you want sound in (Main Bar, Brewery, etc)
If there are ‘zones’ you don’t want music playing, turn the left dial in the corresponding ‘zone’ all the way down (counter clockwise)
NOTE: Use only the dial on the left in each ‘zone’ to play the music being run through the main bar system. The dial on the right pipes in music from TM -- I’ll explain that later.
“Zone Dials” on the distributor labeled Main Bar, Brewery, Outside, Tiny
Each ‘zone’ has 2 dials. The one on the left runs the volume for music that’s playing from the main bar music source. For example, if you want to run sound from what’s playing on the iPad to the Brewery, slowly turn the left dial in the ‘Brewery’ zone clockwise (to the right) until the appropriate volume level has been achieved. If you want music from the ipad to play in the Main Bar, turn the left dial in the ‘Main Bar’ zone clockwise (to the right) until the appropriate volume is achieved… and so forth and so on.
NOTE: at the end of the night, please make sure ALL dials on the Zone Distributor AND Mixer are turned all the way down (turn all dials counterclockwise/to the left) before switching OFF the zone distributor.
Mono Button
ALL ‘Mono’ buttons in each zone should be pressed in, so the red light is on. This ensures that sound is coming out evenly through all speakers.
PLAYING MUSIC IN THE YARD FROM MAIN BAR
(If you need to play different music in the yard, skip to these instructions)
The purple XLR cord lives permanently in the sound cage, and is labeled (YARD)
XLR cords can be connected to this cord and run outside to the desired location for the auxiliary speaker.
An extension cord and power cord are also needed for the auxiliary speaker.
Plug in the XLR cord into the back of the speaker with the gain to 12noon.
Use the left Source 1 dial in the Main Bar cage to send music to the speaker.
If you need a microphone outside, either use the portable speaker and microphone or plug a microphone into the other side of the speaker (the input to the right of where it’s plugged in to receive sound from the main bar system). Turn up the gain all the way and test the mic ahead of time.
RUNNING SOUND FROM THE MB TO TINY
With music playing (from iPad, or DJ) in the MB, turn the left dial in the zone labeled ‘Tiny’ up to 12 noon
Walk over to TM and in the sound cage in TM, plug the cable labeled ‘From MB to TM’ into a channel in the TM mixer
Turn the corresponding channel dial up to 12 noon
Then, from the Master Fader app, find the corresponding channel that the cable is plugged into, ‘un-mute’ the channel, and then raise the volume from that channel as well as the main channel on the mixer until the appropriate volume is achieved
When you are done playing music at the end of the night YOU MUST UNPLUG THE CABLE LABELED ‘FROM MB TO TINY’ FROM THE MIXER
YARD ONLY Sound
What you need:
1-2 monitors (portable speaker)
1-2 power cords
1 portable PA (in a box in the full time office)
1 DI Box
1 XLR → ¼”cable cord (XLR on one end, ¼” cable on the other end)
1 Aux Cable (in bench in TM)
1-2 extension cords
2 speaker stands
Set up Instructions
Place speakers and stands in desired locations with power cords attached.
Run extension cords to each of them.
Set up the portable PA and its power cord next to one of the speakers on a table. (this is where you’ll plug in a device to manage playlist)
XLR/1/4” cable connects to a DI Box and gets plugged in at MAIN OUT (XLR inputs on the PA)
Plug an auxiliary cord from the DI Box to the device. Make sure the gray and red connections are plugged into the INPUT (not “THRU”). Red goes to “left in” and Gray goes to “right in”. Your device can plug into the headphone jack on the aux cord.
Then, connect XLR cords to reach each of the speakers, plug in the speakers to the PA at MAIN IN (XLR inputs on the PA)
Use an auxiliary cord (headphone jack on one end, red/white plug-ins on the other side) to connect the device with the playlist to the PA.
Turn up the gain to 50% on both speakers, then return to the PA and turn up the dials where the speakers are plugged in to hear the sound.
TINY MONTGOMERY
GENERAL SOUND INSTRUCTIONS:
Make sure everything is on in the audio cage.
Make sure the speakers are ‘on’ in Tiny Montgomery
Open Master Fader on the iPad, allow it to “update” and then find channel i that has the iPad connection. Turn down the volume all the way.
Open Spotify, select your playlist and start a song.
Go back to Master Fader, and on Channel i, turn up the volume.
The ‘master’ volume on the right will turn up all channels.
If you’re plugging in a device (guest iphone, laptop, etc)
In Master Fader, find the channel labeled AUX.
Plug in an XLR cord to that channel’s input above the iPad.
XLR connects to a DI Box, and an auxiliary cord from the DI Box to the device. Make sure the gray and red connections are plugged into the INPUT (not “THRU”). Red goes to “left in” and Gray goes to “right in”
Play something from the device, ensuring the sound on the device is at 100%.
Adjust volume on that device through the channel in Master Fader.
If you’re plugging in a microphone:
In Master Fader, find an open channel.
Plug in an XLR cord to that channel’s input above the iPad.
Adjust the level on that channel in Master Fader and test the microphone.
To play music from TM to the Cafe:
Plug everything in and turn everything on as noted above.
Make sure the speaker is turned on (there’s a light on the front if it is on)
Next to the master volume it says “Main”. Tap there and a list of options will appear.
Select “A6 BS” (Auxiliary 6). This is the volume control to the speaker above the fridge in the Shop. Adjust as needed until you hear the sound in the Shop (you may need to walk back and forth to hear it)
If it’s not playing after adjusting levels, make sure the BS Auxiliary Cord (a ⅙” plug in at the very top of the PA, above the XLR inputs, is plugged into the correct channel (6). Sometimes it gets unplugged and plugged back into the wrong input.
PROJECTOR
RUNNING SOUND FROM TM TO MB
With music already playing in TM, walk over to the MB, choose the zone you want the music from TM to play in (Main Bar, Brewery, Booths, etc.), and slowly turn up (clockwise) the dial on the right until you achieve the appropriate volume.
NOTE: make sure you turn off any music playing from the MB, or you will hear music from BOTH the MB + Tiny at the same time.
Neither dials in the Tiny zone should be touched on the zone distributor in the main bar
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, TURN THE DIAL ON THE RIGHT IN THE TINY ZONE UP -- THIS WILL CREATE A FEEDBACK LOOP THAT WILL BLOW OUT OUR SYSTEM.

Music is playing on the iPad but I can’t hear anything…!
Have you checked the following?:
Is the volume ALL THE WAY UP on the iPad?
Is the cable that connects the iPad to the mixer plugged in?
Check the mixer: Have you turned up the red dial in the channel labeled ‘IPAD’ ? (this is the red dial located at the bottom of the row of dials)
Check the zone distributor: Have you turned up the left hand dial in the appropriate zone?
If all this still isn’t working: HAVE YOU TRIED CLOSING OUT/RESTARTING THE MASTER FADER APP?
And if it’s still not working: HAVE YOU TRIED TURNING EVERYTHING OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN? (This means: ipad and zone distributors)
The music isn’t playing in the booths….!
Have you checked the following?:
Is the distributor for the Booths ON? The silver box at the bottom of the cabinet is the distributor for the Booths. Click the switch to ON. There is a blue light that turns on when the system is on.
Are the dials turned up to noon on the Booth distributor? These dials shouldn’t really ever be touched, but sometimes they accidentally get bumped. Simply turn them up to noon.
Did you accidentally turn up the wrong dial on the zone distributor? The zone for the booths is labeled BOOTHS. Turn up the dial on the left.
The music from the MB isn’t playing in TM …..!
Have you checked the following:
In TM, is the cable labeled ‘From MB to TM ‘ plugged into the mixer?
Is the corresponding dial to that same channel turned up to noon?
Is the corresponding channel in the Master Fader app UN-muted and turned up?
Is the main volume in the Master Fader applUN-muted and turned up?
Is the dial in the zone for TINY in the MB turned up enough?
