From your Shopify POS products and cart screen, tap the gift card product.
Choose a preset value for the gift card from the drop-down menu, or create a Custom Amount.
If you're setting a custom value for the gift card, then enter the amount into the box that displays, and tap Next.
If you are selling a physical gift card, then activate the gift card using one of the following options:
Scan the card with the front-facing camera on your iPad or enter the gift card's number.
Tap Create
The gift card product is added to the cart. Tap Checkout to continue to checkout.
Select the customer's payment method and then tap Accept.
Add products to the Shopify POS cart in the usual way, then tap Checkout.
Tap Gift card (if you don't see the Gift card option, then enable it from the Payments settings screen).
Enter the gift card number using one of the following options:
Enter the code that the customer gives you.
Use our supported 2D barcode scanner to scan the barcode (the 2D scanner is the only supported scanner that can read a gift card's QR barcode).
Use the front-facing camera on your iPad.
Tap Redeem.
If there's a remaining balance that the customer needs to pay, then Tap Add payment to add another payment method.
Optional: On the post-checkout screen, provide the customer with a receipt.
*The receipt shows the last 4 digits of the gift card used in payment, along with the remaining balance on the card.
Tap Done to return to the products screen.
Shopify gift cards can not be reissued. Once all funds have been used you can toss the card.
Make sure your POS app is up to date, the camera has permissions and that you're able to accept physical gift cards on that ipad.
From Shopify POS, tap ≡ > Settings > Payment settings.
Tap Gift Card.
Enable the following options: Accept gift card payments for gift cards that you can print and email to customers. Accept physical gift cards for physical gift cards.
For Brooklyn Bars ONLY
From the checkout screen, tap Actions > Gift Cards > Sell Physical Gift Cards
Swipe the gift card, take a photo of the gift card QR code with your device’s camera, or manually enter the 16-digit gift card number.
Select a default load value or enter a custom load amount if you turned on that option.
If you swipe the gift card or scan the gift card QR code or bar code, the amount will automatically load. If you manually enter the gift card number, tap Load.
To add additional items to the sale, tap the arrow to return to your item library or tap the keypad icon.
If this is a promotional gift card, search and select "Promotional Gift Card"
Tap Charge to complete the sale.

The only way to create promotional gift cards (for barter etc.) is to discount at 100%.
Use "Promotional Gift Card" Discount when checking out.
From the checkout screen, tap Actions > Gift Cards > Sell EGift Cards
Select a default load value or enter a custom load amount if you turned on that option.
Add the recipients email address
Select Return to Sale
Select Actions > Discount
If this is a promotional gift card, search and select "Promotional Gift Card"
Tap Pay
Tap Charge to Complete the Sale.
Tap Record Payment $0

Go to Checkout > add the items your customer wishes to purchase from your library or enter a custom amount.
Tap Charge > swipe the gift card through your magstripe reader or the front of Square Stand, take a photo of the gift card QR code or barcode with your device’s camera, or scan the gift card barcode with a barcode scanner. Alternatively, if the customer has an eGift Card, tap Manual Gift Card Entry and enter the gift card information when your customer is ready to pay.
Square gift cards can be used again and again. If a customer uses up all the funds on their card they can add more funs or we can reuse it for a future gift card purchase.
We no longer subscribe to The Customer Connection (gift card service) but physical gift cards purchased pre pandemic still exist. If a customer contacts us looking to use their physical gift card check the Customer Connection list to see if they have a balance or if the remaining amount is $0. If the remaining amount is $0 the card has been used in full or voided (and replaced in Shopify). If either of those rules apply do not create another gift card. If there is a balance follow the steps to create physical gift cards or see below to create a replacement e-gift card in Shopify:
In Shopify > Products > Gift Cards > Issue gift card
Gift card code: last name + amount*
Initial Value: balance from physical card
Find or create customer
Adding their email will send them the gift card as soon as its created and saved
Add note: "transferred physical gift card to online balance + card #"
Save
Note in the Customer Connection sheet that a replacement gift card has been created (column E) and add additional notes if necessary (column F).
Create a new gift card in the new POS system with the correct balance
In Shopify make a note "transferred from Square gift card"
Disable initial gift card
Shopify - Select Disable > Leave note in Timeline or Notes field
Physical gift card is not reusable. Throw away.
