Elements

Stumped Vase

For this project, my class had to use elements of nature and take one of them into consideration and make something function related to that. I used a tree stump as inspiration for my vase that I can put flowers in.

I started off with a chunk of clay that I rolled into coils. Then took the coils and put them on top of a circular slab and built up the layers to get a circular vase shape. I used a tool with lots of prongs to create rings on the top of the vase to represent the rings on the tree of the growth of the tree. Lastly, I took a few brown shades and put them on abrastically to create a bark kind of look on the outside.

I created this vase to get reintroduced into pottery and keep my mind thinking about the element in this world, with how they largely effect so many parts.
