For this project, I had to find a pot on a website to help inspire me to create a replica of that pot. We used our knowledge from our intro to coil pot to help create this.

Similar to my intro coil pot project I started with a base and added coils around to create the shape overlaying the coils farther out to create a bigger pot. Then I would work up and then I would put the coils father in so it would get bigger around the top. I would smooth out the pot and then would glaze it and the pot would be done.

I created this pot to further understand the coil tequene. Pushing ourselves to create a way better pot and some of them are super complex.

Where and when was your ceramic object created? This pot was created in the Naqada II period (3500-3200 BCE) in ancient Egypt.

Describe the physical appearance of your object. (Think size, shape, color, pattern, texture, etc.) This pot looks to be a bigger pot probably the size of my computer. It looks to be a rich red with a handle on each side. There are carvings on the pot and a nice ring on the top.

Describe the method of construction of this object and what brings you to this conclusion. (Is it pinch, coil, slab, wheel thrown, or a combination?) This pot was most likely made with the clay between his/her hand and a large flat tool held in the other hand. This would make a thin-walled vessel.

Describe how the surface is treated. (Is it glazed, unglazed, texture added, decorative elements attached, pattern pressed in, etc.?) I think this pot had an underglaze since the clay is not shiny and looks like the clay is red. The added pattern looks like it’s painted on and not carved.

What is the function of this object? (Please write how you know this or what causes you to guess the function.) This vessel would hold a variety of materials. For example water, other liquids (wine or beer), food, or grains.

In regards to the form and/or decoration, compare this object to something you see or use today. Describe how the two objects relate. I'm comparing this to a pot in today’s use for a plant. The size of this pot I'm researching is probably bigger, but the look of the plant pot seems smaller depending on what plant this is used for. Other than the size and use, these pots are very similar.

Why did you choose this object? I chose this pot because the color stood out to me and the somewhat basic carving or what could be painted in a darker underglaze. This pot's website is a reliable source so I know this pot is authentic and ancient. Also, when recreating this would be what I think is pretty easy, or what I think is easy.
