Sustained Investigation #4

The main idea for this project was to try new materials that I was gifted. Perler beads were a fun craft I did as a kid and wanted to push the limits with a larger scale and try engraving on the plastic after it was melted. 

The materials I used were various colored perler beads on the given tray which I did four mini designs and melted together. With an iron and wax paper the finally a carving tool to add some basic lines to try and give some texture and depth. 

The process I went through was planning, I started off with a mini-trial design to get the hang of this old skill. Then take my design and break it up into fourths doubling the beads on each tray to make a larger scale. After that, it was just a lot of trail and air getting used to the tools needed to create this piece.
