Sgraffito Tile

For my tile, I decided instead of finding some pattern and using that for the composition of my tile to do a photo. A photo I took while skiing at Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia Canada.

I started off with a chunk of clay that I rolled out into a slap using the slab roller. From there I just took out my slab and started drawing out my design after I had added 3 coats of my blue glaze. I put my sketch on top of my tile and pushed down with my pencil to indent the lines from my sketch. Then all I had to do was scratch away.

This was my first project of the year and this was a good start. I was introduced to the slap roller, glaze, many tools to help me sketch away the glaze, and of course clay.
