End Of The Year Reflection

How does your work show how you have improved? I feel that my work has improved over this school year by the different varieties of materials and techniques used throughout this year. I still continue to have the same focus on landscapes but I always try to use new materials and experiment with ways I can accomplish learning. Towards the end of the year, you can definitely tell the style I've started to develop and how it fits the theme I want to use in my AP portfolio for next year.

In what ways does your work illustrate your strengths and weaknesses as a learner? I think again this year my work has some struggles that show some of my artistic weaknesses but also there are lots of good pieces I really like. I feel a weakness that was obvious in my work was either the same material that had little to no new skills shown or just a lack of motivation to try and experiment. There are definitely a lot of projects in which I showed new skills and they would just keep growing when I found the groove that really worked well with my style and what I had going on.

What was the most challenging and why? The most challenging part of this year was the last little stretch after February break. I had more time on my hands and that left me more time to procrastinate and overthink new ideas. This left me with reusing some styles and ideas, which essentially left me doing a few drawings that side by side that looked pretty similar. But I didn't expect myself to have a lack of creativity once I had more time on my hands.

What are you most proud of and why? I am most proud of my sustained investigations where I took four wooden canvases. I took multiple images and turned them into a collage that ultimately turned into a blocked-out version on the canvas. It took a lot of time to create all of the layers of paint to get nice opaque colors. But also how the four canvases can be displayed as one big piece or four small pieces. I also felt it was a turning point in my work, where I developed a style and techniques I really liked.

What are your artistic goals for the summer/future? My goals to stay artistic for this summer are to create designs and simple ideas of what I want to use as inspiration for next year. I also want to start to learn more about digital art which I’m excited about. I'm also a really crafty person so I always find myself doing some type of project whenever I have the chance.
