For this project, we had to take five or more pinch pots and put them together to create some type of sculpture. To stick with my underwater theme, I thought of creating a fish. With them having many fins or tails I thought this would be good for this project.
I started with two decent balls of clay for the two halves of the body, making sure to pinch almost pulling so it would not be a circle and almost a rectangle shape and I did that twice. With that done I started making three small pinch pots that will be added to the body later. Two small pinch pots for the fins off the top and bottom, and one medium size pinch pot to add to the back for the tail. Once those five pinch pots were together I added flat snakes to make indents to the fish body pop and another flat snake for the mouth in the front of the snake. Lastly, I added a small ball for the eye.
This project I created was to show my knowledge of the pinch pot technique. I got to learn many things along the way, for example, I got to learn how to make them stay together and mold them to create something realistic. Another big thing I learned was how to make it so it's all one big air pocket instead of many that would bust in the kiln if I did not learn this.
