Remote and hybrid workers spend significantly less time in the office than employees permanently assigned to an office. By spending less time in the office, there is less access to the printed materials in the office and time spent with coworkers, therefore, familiarity with the building or emergency procedures and protocols may diminish over time.
To supplement this lack of familiarity with the office and regular exposure to common practices and procedures, several resources are available to help remote and hybrid workers stay current with DOR’s safety, security and emergency preparedness programs.
Created to help employees know and understand the most common emergencies that may happen at the office or away from work.
Placed in all DOR facilities and offices for easy access and review.
It is recommended that all employees review this quick reference guide periodically to remain current with the procedures and recommended actions. (During breaks, lunchtime, staff meetings or when visiting the office)
All employees receive Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS) alerts through their State email.
DOR conducts quarterly tests of the WENS.
Employees are encouraged during each quarterly test to add their personal email and cell phone number to the notification database through the Employee Self Service (ESS) portal to receive emergency messages even when not at a worksite or computer.
4 Safety and Security training/awareness modules were created for employees
Active Shooter Awareness
Bomb Threat Awareness
Shelter-in-Place Awareness
Unattended Items and Lost Property Awareness
Completion of all modules is mandatory for new employees.
It is recommended that all employees review these modules annually as a refresher course. Information fades from memory over time, annual review of safety programs is a good practice.
Larger evacuation maps have been placed in the common areas and corridors of the Pierce Facility and Cole Center Suites to assist employees that are not regular visitors to the building to identify evacuation routes more easily.
Regional Service Centers and most other offices also have evacuation routes posted.
Remote and hybrid workers are encouraged to visit their primary assigned office periodically to become or remain familiar with its location, layout and evacuation routes.
