Colorado is only the second state in the nation to legalize psilocybin mushrooms for personal use or use by healing centers after SB23-290 was signed into law in May 2023.
The NMD’s licensing operations team provides both in-person and online licensing services for the following:
Natural medicine businesses, including healing centers, cultivations, manufacturers and testing facilities

The NMD conducts background, administrative, financial and criminal investigations of applicants and licensees.
The NMD partners with other local law enforcement agencies to investigation non-compliant activity.
The NMD Policy team is responsible for managing legislative and rulemaking activities and stakeholder engagement.
The NMD provides educational services to licensees and the public.
Colorado's Department of Regulatory Affairs ("DORA") regulates and licenses facilitators of natural medicine services.
The department encourages employees to report suspected violations and prohibits retaliation against any individual for reporting violations of suspected fraud or related activities. You can do so in the following ways:
