We believe that you will enjoy this tour even more if you get to know your fellow travelers. To facilitate this, we would like some autobiographical information, which we will distribute to everyone in our group. Use the back if you think of something that doesn’t fit in any category.
Name: Susan Ruth Rochat Nickname: Susan
Something about your work or what you do in retirement:
Retired registered nurse; currently a “Mother’s helper” in our community—transporting children to after school activities, medical & dental appointments, etc.
Something about your family: I was born in Khargpur, India and became a Christian thanks to American Baptist missionaries at a young age while attending the Baptist Church. Both parents worked for the Indian railways and were Christians. My parents, sister and I immigrated to Peoria, Illinois in 1960. I completed nurses’ training there and moved to Seattle, WA where I met my husband Roger. We married in 1966 and moved to New Orleans and worked at Charity Hospital. He joined the Centers for Disease Control Epidemiology Intelligence Service (EIS) and was assigned to Oregon—and two months later he was asked to go to E. Pakistan, now Bangladesh, to participate in a field study of oral therapy for cholera. He spent 2 months treating cholera patients in a rural hospital. His sister and I visited him there. Last December he retired from CDC and accepted a faculty position at Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. We have 3 grown children—Melanie manages a whitewater rafting service on the Ocoee River in Tennessee; David works as a computer network consultant; Suzette is a second year graduate student at UNC School of Public Health.
