Gladys Smith, Dorothy & Danielle Weeks at John Rochat's wedding
envelope 8 Jan 1993
Dear Dorothy Thank you for your good letter & fine pictures of all which I prize. When Bob Thonney was here last he had visited you & beamed when he told how enjoyed visiting you all! So I can see from your news it must be a very interesting place & joyful. (burnt on left side): about what I know of family is mostly by memory-no contacts anymore. When my mother came to Walla W. with her mother & sister: Mathilde, she was teaching French & they were all in the meeting in Walla Walla when the Rochat boys "came to stay with Eva & Anna. I have heard a dear old lady in Settle (can't remember her name) but she was in Walla Walla at the wedding time and wasn't invited but peeked in the Thonney home. She said she felt it such a loss for such a charming young lady as Helene Delepine to be wasted on the country boy but he was so spiritual and godly and asked Mrs. Delepine if he could court her! Evidently she was won by talks of the beautiful place? & the home to be on the river. But it didn't last long. I was born in WW & Elsie in Pullman where William was ...uced? I think to go to agriculture at College.
Albert was born in the homestead on the River but my mother couldn't take it, especially the awful French that was used ....? was the final horror. I'm not linguistic ..yed? French & English with a German accent!! They moved to Spokane & Mother ran a boarding house-then a dairy farm, etc. ....bout Australia, Don Rochat met Aimee's .. & corresponded but last I heard he lost? contact. Ian Roses's widow wrote to Elaine ..le. [a little?]
..share yours with Bill & Beck & on to Elaine & Shirley. .. didn't get one. Love Aunt Gladys.
