Dear Sis,
With regards the dictionary, I should be happy to get you one and send it up, if I can get a better, cheaper one here.
$36.50= 40,000 word student Webster dictionary
$6.00= 180,000 term Webster dictionary.
Personally, I think the $6k one would be my choice unless you want it almost entirely for spelling. Anyway, please advise. This price came from Brutzman's Office Supply].
Ahem! Ahem!
Three Little Boys
by Roger Rochat, Nancy Nutley, ed., Lorraine Larson, ed.
Three little boys to our house did come
One rainy day in June
One rainy day in June they came
Because they were mistreated.
Their bodies sore and full of pain,
Were of good health deleted.
But soon these boys quite well became.
All illness now for gone,
All illness now far gone because,
They here received good care.
Good food and sleep have given cause
For them good health to share.
Now many rainy days may come
To them throughout their lives,
And yet they will in surety dwell
For ere in happiness;
And long may they live to tell
Of the lives with which they're blest.
I think I passed Larson's first A contract! Further I finally squeezed A's out of Trig & Gov. after flunking a test in the former and getting D- in the 2nd.
Hope all is well with you.
Con amore,
Roger

Nov 20, 1957 Roger to Marilyn
Dear Marilyn,
Forgive us for not writing-I’ll try to inform you of some of what has happened since Sunday.
Sunday, we went to Walla Walla, picking up Grandmother from Mojohnniers [Mojonnier] (sic) going over. That evening I sat down to write a sonnet for English (See enclosed), and Kim & John were steaming with Vicks between the sewing machine and green davenport.
Somehow the steaming water was overturned, giving John a slight (4” diameter) 2nd degree burn just above the knee on second leg; and giving Kim extensive 2nd degree burns from hip to ankle with 2 portions of flesh on each leg having 3rd degree burn! He may need skin grafting. Very unfortunate-Grandmother was somewhat upset as was everyone.
That same evening, Grandmother taught me to sing 2 Fr. Hymns obtained from a French Little Flock Hymn Book found at Mojohniers. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Uncle Don came Monday night to take Grandmother to his place.
I have asked at the hospital to only work 4 nites a week as I am tired of putting in 35 hrs a week at hosp. after school.
My grades were bad:
1st hr Trig A [2nd in class with 85 highest 90… [cut off]
2nd hr Typing A
3rd hr NW Hist B+ [2nd in class]
4th hr Eng B [I feel gypped!]
5th hr Am. Government B+ [Ron got only A]
6th hr Physics A [1st in class; Ron’s 2nd]
Ron Van Enkevort is proving rough competition
p. 2
in grades, while Dick Potts is proving tough competition with NaNu!
Last night, I went up to school, spending about 3-4 hrs in chemistry lab and one hr listening to the lousiest debate every made by Al W. and NaNu. They lost. They were debating Prosser in KHS library. The Prosser boy, John Pearl? Peoil?, whom they debated was an avid war story reader on my bookmobile run last summer.
This afternoon I was excused from an Am. Gov. 5th hr to go with Mr. Bartanen, Chuck Woofter [straight A’s Jr], Bill Welch, Roger Records [also Jr’s] out to Mrs. Hardtke’s 6th grade at Hawthorne for a ½ hr. demonstration on friction.

Evelyn was here all day yesterday. She brought me a pamphlet for my birthday. Last night I worked from 5-11:30 & this is getting, unfortunately, to be the custom rather than the exception. Say would you check and see what Carl Rantzou does at his hospital and what hospital it is! Thx. We have a maintenance man at our hospital also named Carl. Wonder if C.R. does maintenance work also?
Well, forgive me for not writing more oft but please never feel that I do not remember you and both to God and certain co-friends of ours at school.
Love
Roger
PS We’re still taking care of Doug and sometimes/rarely Jim.
A Sonnet to My Sister
By Roger Rochat
‘Twas never love like that which I hold,
Betwixt my lovely sister and myself.
She is the light which I do ere behold,
When in despondency I find myself.
For then she quickly sits me free from fear.
Of that which my low state of mind does cause;
She always proves a remedy so dear,
That I from praising her might never pause.
And I for her do every gladly that,
Which pleases most her gentle heart and mind;
And ne’er ‘twixt us has there expressed a spat,
Which did our love not us more closely bind.
Oh, a thousand deaths I’d gladly die
To see a riant smile in sister’s eye.

Interesting history!! Can't believe you have this stuff on file. I highlighted the ones I remember
in grades, while Dick Potts [was at 50th KHS reunion last June; wife recently died of cancer; he then went to Siberia and sent me emails from there; he lives in Arkansas.] is proving tough competition with NaNu [Nancy Nutley--also at 50th reunion; lives in S Calif; has nice place for grandchildren on Mt. Rainier; she organized our high school graduation trip and climb on Mt. Rainier]!
Last night, I went up to school, spending about 3-4 hrs in chemistry lab and one hr listening to the lousiest debate every made by Al W. and NaNu. They lost. This afternoon I was excused from an Am. Gov. 5th hr to go with Mr. Bartaner [Warren Bartanen (Finnish name) was my chemistry teacher and the one who urged me to major in chemistry at UR] , Chuck Woofter [straight A’s Jr], Bill Welch, Roger Records [also Jr’s] out to Mrs. Hardtke’s 6th grade at Hawthorne for a ½ hr. demonstration on friction.

That fellow Roger speaks of as giving him competition in Physics, namely
"Ron Van Enkevort" was back at KHS as a physics instructor for me.
