To Danielle and Hannes
On Your Wedding Day
By Susan Rochat

To love and to cherish, in sickness and health
To laugh and to sing and to play
Follow your hearts as you walk side by side
Open your minds as you pray.
Courteous and kind and respectful be
With love and honesty care
Hold on to each other, yet give some space
Say “I love you”, while you give and you share.
When you open your door to the hungry and poor
When a cup of water you give to the thirsty
You’ll be blessed beyond measure, because there lies your treasure
Not in things, but in love and in mercy.
If you love as Christ loved, with arms open wide,
He loved with no condemnation
But for those who were in their own little club
Of exclusivity, judgment or segregation.
Be wary of those who would steal your joy
With rules and restrictions abounding
For to show His grace and reflect His face
We can only be humble and caring.
If you love as Christ loved, with arms open wide
You’ll see beauty and love all around.
The world will become a more wonderful place
Where glorious treasures abound.
