in our devotional reading today we shared a thought from a book by a missionary in Bengal Orissa --Gertrude Brox— who was there for three years when she had surgery and died from the resultant infection, what a blow to our mission and to the Santal folk who had learned to really love her. and this devotion by her brought some things to my mind--an experience in the village of Sundapari I was there with some of our pastors for a few days of home visitation and evening worship. the name in Santal means beautiful village, we had arrived about 1 in the afternoon and visited some homes and looked the village over - well to my eye it did not live up to its name. then to bed in the jeep and I awoke early the next morning before the sun was up and walked out from the village a ways to read and to think when I looked back and the sun ws just coming up and shining on that village---what a difference the rising sun made. and as I sat there looking I thought of how the Rising Son of God makes such a difference when He comes into our lives, and then as we presented the Gospel to the folk and some began to respond again I thought SON RISE makes all the difference. to a village or to a life. also I remember now talking with a Hindu man in Balasore who said he could walk through a village and tell which homes were Christian and which were not I asked him How and he saId --well there is some sort of atmosphere there and also it is cleaner --I asked him if that said anything to him about being a Christian and he agreed it did but when I asked him about his accepting the Lord he just said "I am a Hindu" and refused to talk about it more. and now it is late and i am sleepy so until next time good night with Love and prayers for each and all Me
