Subject: Fwd: it is Sunday so memories of the ministry
another good story ... hope you enjoy ... it's 10 PM and Susan wants me to sign off, so won't say much ... but sure enjoy Art's memories. Easy to see why Susan cherishes memories of her time with him & others in India. Love. Roger

reading in Stanley Brush's book today found he mentioned the military that came to Khargpur during the war and among them the Scots that really brought back a wonderful memory for me-- one of the men in the Scots regiment which was in our area there met an Anglo Indian girl and they fell in love and were married, he took his release from the army and stayed in Khargpur and shortly after we arrived we met them- they had a little boy who was having some serious physical problems and needed some extra baby food and medicine which they could not afford, so Nathalie wanted to help and we did. The big problem was that Scotty (as we knew him) was addicted to drink, which took most of their money and one day when we gave her some money for the baby he took it to buy his drink --well he came to me for more help and I was MAD --wow I have never been as Angry at a person as I was that day and well when he got outside the gate he was a bit sobered up and went home and told his wife that "the Padre had scared the hell out of him" well, she was really wise that day and instead of berating him said "if that hell is out of you let the Lord Jesus in to take its place" and Scotty did and what a transformation. he came to Church with her and I baptized him and then they got in touch with his folk in Scotland and went there and when we were in London on our way home in 1952 they came to our hotel to see us with that little boy so strong and healthy and another little one -a girl whom we thought was "cute as bug's ear" and the wonderful part was that they were active in the Presbyterian Church in their home town. wow was so good to see them and know we had had a part in their good life. stories like that make my memories really joyous(can't say all our work turned out that well) so with the thought "this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it" love to you all Me
