Dear Mom & Dad
Am trying to write you weekly-trust you’ll forward news on to siblings-
We just finished a 3-day weekend & we’re tired. Hired car & driver for 7 hours (1 way) drive to Nainital where Susan went to boarding school (All Saints) for 8 years-a hard drive. Max speed 50 mph. Often stops for trains, bicyclists, pedestrians, cows, monkeys, etc.
I really liked the school- 130 years old with original plank floors. The present English teacher was in the class behind Susan & said how much she’d looked up to the seniors. Lovely wild flowers. Altitude ~7500 feet. We all rode horseback for about 4 hours-went up to 8500 feet to China Peak (on clear days allegedly can see China).
Interesting trees. From hot desert flora up through eucalyptus & oleander to pines & rhododendrons. We saw a troop of about 100 monkeys swinging through pine trees. Seems eery. Trees look pines in USA with monkeys frolicking all over the place.
We do get “homesick” occasionally it is chiefly the isolation -the difficulty making phone calls to US & the lack of familiar food’s, etc.
Incidentally if you every need to reach me urgently call CDC, Atlanta. I have almost weekly phone conversations with Jerry Brimberry (404) 379 3111. I expect he will be coming to Delhi last 2 weeks October.
Will stop-must leave for office. Thanks for letters. Love ya, Roger.
[Susan) PS Please xerox & send to Gainesville-thanks S.R. Hope you are enjoying new wallpapering.
