We get a daily letter now from the retired Baptist missionary who baptized Susan in 1956 in Khargpur, India. He lives in S California and takes care of his disabled wife. Thought I'd share an occasional note of his memories. We visited them, Art & Natalie Sanford, when we drove from Portland to Atlanta in 1969--and have, of course invited them to Suzette's wedding.. .but know they won't make it. Roger
after four years in Sedro Wooley and wondering what was coming next our Baptist State Executive called us from Spokane and said the Central Baptist Church was interested and asked if we would come over to meet with them, he would like us take that Church SO we went over and we were called and we moved over there I knew there was a good college in Spokane and was wondering about it when one of the teachers from Whitworth spoke at our pastors conference and told of a class he was going to teach and asked us to consider joining it. several of us did and I got to see Whitworth from the inside - then I came to know Dr Hardwick, one of the finest professors I have ever known. He persuaded me to take the entrance exam that all new students did and then think about getting my degree from Whitworth. I did and then he talked with me about enrolling for full time study. I explained

that tho I had done the studying for high school and the tests, I did not have a diploma because some of it was not in an accredited school. I thought that would end my days of study BUT God is still in control and HE was not yet through with HIS promise to me. Dr Hardwick assured me I could make it to graduation and then he did something he was not supposed to do -‑ he shared with me my test results: well not the score but just said I had tied the highest score Whitworth had ever had in its nearly 75 years. AND to keep going. Thank God I did and in 1946 after only 2 and 1/2 years of classes graduated with B A.in Psychology, Speech, and Education (major and 2 minors) Cum Laude. And as I sat there with those grads that morning I was thinking back to that night when I had argued with God about not being able to be a minister because of my lack of education and HE had promised to open doors - here I was now with my high school accomplished, four years of Bible school and one semester of Seminary and now my BA from this College. and I wondered what more HE had in store for us. well GOD was not through with HIS promise but before any more doors opened we were on our way to Bengal India as Missionaries AND more open doors! but for tonight this closes the letter - will bore you with God's next step tomorrow night --until then May HIS blessings be as great on all of you as they have been poured out on me and mine and that is saying A LOT ! PRAISE HIS NAME just me talking with love to you all
