November 2018

There was nothing spooky about Halloween for the Lehighton Field Hockey team. The team won their first district championship since 2010 on October 31st. The 1st seeded Indians faced the 7th seeded Northwestern Lehigh Tigers in the district final. The game remained scoreless in the first half, the Indians drawing many penalties but unable to score. With less than ten minutes left in regulation time, the Indians were awarded a penalty stroke. Aleah Nothstein, junior, scored against the Tigers’ goalie, giving the Indians a 1-0 lead. Not long after, Mackenzie Hoats, junior, gave the Indians’ lead insurance, firing a hard shot from the outside into the opposite side of the goal. After losing in the district final in both 2016 and 2017, the Indians came into the final with an undeniable desire to win. The field hockey team’s journey is far from over, as they have qualified for state playoffs and hope to bring home the gold. There really is something special about the 2018 Lehighton Field Hockey team, and the whole community is behind them.
