Merry Christmas... scratch that, Happy Holidays!

From October to December, the public is inundated with holidays. Walmart sells Halloween candy by the bulk, Giant runs out of turkeys, and radio stations play Christmas music. These holidays have been emerged in the culture of our country since its founding. Due to our upbringing, the majority of us think nothing of it. We make lists for Santa Claus, contemplate what to dress up as for Halloween, and gather with family to watch the

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. However, those who do not follow our beliefs are starting to feel ostracized. Christmas trees are being banned from schools because of their religious

connections. Twenty years ago, this would not be a factor. Nowadays, we are experiencing what is referred to as the “minority majority”. Different ethnic groups are migrating to our melting pot of a country and soon will overtake the current majority.

Some are even contemplating taking In God We Trust off of the dollar bill. And holidays are no exception. Many followers of religions other than Christianity feel offended by symbols of our beloved holidays, prompting some schools to ban celebrations of “Christmas” or “Hanukkah”, and instead advocating the “winter holiday”. What do you think? Should we stick to our roots, and decorate the hallways with trees, or should we honor the request of those who are offended?
