A Decade

December 2019

A decade.

Ten years flashed before your eyes.

A new start and we’re all afraid.

To say goodbye.

A different you,

A different view,

Your life will never be the same.

Old memories of elementary days

Run circles around my brain.

I wish the 2010s would stay

As I walk down memory lane.

“Hey Soul Sister” is now “Bury a friend”

While new artists are on their way,

Some careers just can’t stay.

We lost so many people we loved

And some of their tunes we hummed.

From David Bowie to Prince,

Whitney Houston to Robin Williams,

Alan Rickman to Stan Lee,

Russi Taylor to Cameron Boyce.

Our favorite shows are no longer aired.

All the times we sat by the TV and stared.

From Blue’s Clues to Tom and Jerry,

Suite Life on Deck to Gravity Falls,

Victorious to Wizards of Waverly Place,

And Liv and Maddie to iCarly.

The time has gone by so fast.

If only the days would last,

Just a little longer. For our memories

Are strong. We need a remedy

For our broken heart.

I don’t want the new year to start.

I’ll miss you,

I’ll cherish you,

Those moments we had together

And never forget that you shaped me

Into who I am today.

I just have one more thing to say.

Thank you.
