Seashells

By Callie Hayman

Seashells wait on the beach,

Soon a girl decides to reach.

To grasp the broken one in her hand,

Underneath the moonlight that shines on the sand.

Soon the sun will be in the sky,

And the girl will have to say goodbye.

The moonlight glistens down one last time,

The bells from the church begin to chime.

The moon dies and the sun starts to rise,

Daytime is here and people are near.

The wind whistles and the waves crash,

Until the day has passed.

The girl is back once again,

To say hello to an old friend.

The girl just turned eighteen, and she is on her own.

She picks up the seashell that someone has thrown.

Her face begins to smile,

She knows that she must travel miles.

Years pass, and the beach is the same,

Except that it misses the girl with no name.

She never returned to that shore,

Until she had a little girl of her own who ran out the door

The girl ran right out to the beach and waited for her mother,

She would join her one day after another.
