The He51 in the MH band has a minimum speed of 1.5, and a maximum level speed of 3.0.
What is his cruise speed ?
Charts says (OMT page 1) :
"Any speed greater than highest available endurance speed up to the lesser of:
- max attainable level speed -1.0 if in the HI or higher band
- max attainable level speed -1.5 if in the MH or lower band"
So here it would be 3.0 minus 1.5 = 1.5
But it also says that it has to be greater than endurance speed.
So what is endurance speed for the He51 at MH altitude ?
Charts says (OMT page 1) :
"Up to 1/2 of max attainable speed, except never greater than or equal to
slowest available cruise speed."
So Endurance speed is 1/2 of 3.0 which is 1.5.
So in my example, Endurance speed is 1.5 and is equal to cruise speed
(calcualted to be 1.5).
So what is endurance speed and what is cruise speed ?
What is the speed that you are supposed to calculate first ? As both speeds refer to the other, it forms a loop in the calculation, so it seems that one should be set before the other. Right ? But which one ?
1. Calculate Cruise Speed first.
Cruise Speed = 3.0 -1.5 = 1.5, which is also Min Speed.
2. Next, Calculate Endurance Speed
Endurance Speed = 3.0 x 1/2 = 1.5
Because Endurance Speed must be less than Cruise, then Max Endurance Speed = 1.0
The He51 is unable to use Endurance Speed because it would stall, so its minimum throttle setting is Cruise.
If this was a Bomber, then
Endurance Speed = 1.5
Cruise Speed = 2.0
Climb Speed = 2.5
Dash Speed = 3.0
