3 P47s just destroyed a Ju 52 with gunfire. When rolling the Criticals, There were two explosions.
Can a single aircraft explode twice? I think not.
One of the P47s was range 0. Does he have to have 2 explosion checks? Again I think not.
Doesn't the first explosion complete the task?
Interesting topic, sorry for not noticing it sooner.
The designer would play it as follows:
1. Resolve all shots by all three P47s against the Ju-52 to determine total hits and total crits achieved.
2. Determine effect of the total damage from all shots and all criticals.
The total hits destroyed the Ju-52. Do not stop, resolve the critical effects to determine the worst case for the crew's bail out and any nearby aircraft.
The rules allow the critical hits to be resolved in any order, but with the results applied immediately before the next critical is rolled. Personally, I'd start with the A/C that inflicted the most damage, then on.
I'd rule that any kind of explosion critical hit that destroys an A/C can only occur once, the second one is a hollow (no A/C left to explode when the second or subsequent is rolled).
HOWEVER,
I'd also rule that a fuel explosion critical is different from a weapons carried explosion, which gets an attack modifier against nearby aircraft. So if one explosion was from the fuel tanks, and another was from weapons carried, I'd subject the range zero P-47 to one explosion check for each different type of explosion.
