Do you remember growing up...
And all those things you ate…
You just shovelled them in your mouth,
Without any big debate…
Wagon wheels and lamingtons,
Pies and sausage rolls…
Apple turnovers with mock cream,
And those good old icy poles..
Sherbet bombs and bubble gum,
Liquorice and lollipops…
There always was a constant queue,
At the local corner shops…
Lunch was buttered bread rolls,
Which we covered in hot chips..
With the vinegar and tomato sauce,
Just dripping from our lips…
Potato scallops, and fried dim sims,
Toasted jaffles by the score…
Froot loops and Sugar frosties,
You always wanted more…
Milo by the bucket full,
Rainbow cakes and custard tarts…
Followed by some ice cream,
And the good old have a hearts…
My grandparents did the same,
And also mum and dad…
Those years of growing up,
Were the best I ever had…
