Ned Kelly was born near Beveridge,
In 1855...
When he was just 11,
He saved Dick Shelton's life...
He saved that boy from drowning,
And received a green and gold silk sash...
Which he kept close by his side,
Until that final clash...
He met up with Harry Power,
After Ned’s old man had died...
Harry showed Ned a few tricks,
On how he had survived...
They threw Ned into jail,
For knocking around with him...
They also caught up to Harry,
Then things were looking grim...
So they let Ned off on good behaviour,
If he showed them some remorse...
But they later found him guilty,
Of stealing his neighbour’s horse...
3 more years in jail,
And then Ned was finally freed...
Where he met George King his stepfather,
Who was a very different breed...
He was an American,
Who had stock theft in his veins...
They started stealing livestock,
And Ned was all the brains...
Then the law came a looking,
For with his little brother Dan...
There was warrants issued,
For this notorious Kelly clan...
It wasn’t until Stringybark Creek,
That things had gone awry...
There was a wild gunfight,
Which saw three Copper's die...
The Kelly gang were now outlaws,
They started robbing banks...
With Steve Hart and Joe Byrne,
Both adding to their ranks...
They robbed banks at Euroa,
With Jerilderie to be their last...
Where finally at Glenrowan,
That they would catch with their past...
There were expecting quite a showdown,
And fashioned four suits made of armour...
They were forged from some old plough shears,
That were stolen from a farmer...
They wore these suits steel,
In this battle to the death...
Where it saw Joe, Dan and Steve,
Take they dying breath...
Ned Kelly he was captured,
And sent to Melbourne Jail
Where he waited there for trial,
He was looking very frail...
It’s when he saw the gallows,
He knew he was in strife...
With that noose around his neck,
And said that “SUCH IS LIFE “...
Whether a villain or hero,
He’s a legend all the same...
Another Aussie icon,
Joins the hall of fame….
