The Anzacs turn 100
On the twenty fifth day of April,
One hundred years ago...
An alliance was made with New Zealand,
Which saw an army grow...
They were called the Anzacs,
And they were shipped on overseas...
To fight a war in Gallipoli,
To bring those Turks down on their knees...
But it proved to be disastrous,
When they arrived there on that beach...
They had to force their way up the hills,
Which proved to damn hard to reach...
Most of those young diggers,
Spent time fighting from a trench...
The smell it was disgusting,
Death has a the foulest stench...
Eight months of confrontations,
Where blood and guts were spilled...
By the time it was all over,
It saw over ten thousand Anzacs killed...
All those poor forgotten souls,
Who gave their lives in that campaign...
Will always be remembered,
Their legacy will remain...
It is still sad but true,
When our country goes to war...
Many of troops will die,
When they settle up the score...
To all those Anzac's,
We will remember what happened on that day...
The bravery of them Anzacs,
Who didn't look the other way...
It also marks the other battles,
From our present to the past...
So we may enjoy our freedom,
Which we hope will always last…..
