Units

Overview

Multiple Units can be linked to Materials, which can be used for buying, selling and estimating.

The Material Unit is the base unit which Inventory will be displayed. See Stock Check (Opening Stock Check) to find out what happens when the Base Unit of a Material is changed 

The Convert Qty is the factor by which a unit is multiplied to get to the Base Unit Quantity.

Navigation: Main Menu > Materials > Setup Materials > Double-click any Material > Units (tab)

Units (tab)

Materials have a default of ea (each) as the Base Unit when they are created. The Base Unit can be changed, and additional units can be added.

Buttons Explained

Top Row Buttons

• ∧ ∨: Used to navigate to the next or previous material

• Edit: Allows users to edit the material.

• New: Not applicable to this tab. (Creates a new Material).

• Delete: Not applicable to this tab. (Deletes the Material item).

• Save: Saves any changes.

• Copy: Not applicable to this tab. (Copies the Material item).

• Actions > Change Base Unit: Allows users to change the Base Unit. (Other actions are not applicable to this tab.)

• Menu: Not applicable to this tab.

Buttons on Tab

• Add Unit: Allows users to add an Additional Unit.

Fields Explained: Sheets and Reels

When the Category = Sheets, the default is set to ea. When the Category = Reels, the default is set to m.

• ID: A system-generated number for the unit.

• Unit: A description of the Unit.

• Default Unit (Sheets): The default unit used for Sheets or

• Default Unit (Reels): The default unit used for Reels.

• X: The number of Sheets or Reels included in the unit.

• Base: A description of the Base Unit (Inventory Unit).

• Stock Check: A checkbox, if checked, a Stock Check may be performed.

• Menu (...): A cross that, if clicked, will delete the unit.

Fields Explained: Other Materials

• ID: A system-generated number for the unit.

• Unit: A Description of the unit.

• X: The number of items included in the unit.

• Base: A description of the Base Unit (Inventory Unit).

Naming Conventions

• ea: Default (each)

Units of Measure

• kg

• ton

• m

• sqm: Square Meter (avoid using a superscript 2 e.g. m²)

• cbm: Cubic Meter (avoid using a superscript 3  e.g. m³)

Containers

• Box (50): Box containing 50 units.

• Reel (100m):  A reel, 100m long.
