Academic Opportunities

UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO PCF MATH CONTEST  

This competition takes place on February 22nd and is open to all students grade 9-12. This contest will take place in the cafeteria between 9 - 10 and contain a total of 25 multiple choice questions. Note that this is a Day 2 for secondary students, so contest writers please let your block B subject teachers know that you are registered for the contest and will be responsible for the work you will miss in that block. You can register online here at https://ocdsb.schoolcashonline.com/. You will not be able to register after February 5th.


MATHLETES

Mathletes is a school club that is a great place for those interested in the math contest, or who just want to have fun with some unprecedented math problems. The club meets on every first Wednesday of the month in room 324. There’s also a special meeting before the contest on Wednesday, Feb. 8th, 2023 after school from 3:15 to 4 pm. Anyone is always welcome to join.

Club Updates

BSU 

The BSU is hosting this month's spirit week. We hope that you all participate to celebrate black pride! 

STUDENT COUNCIL 

Student Council is also hosting a spirit day on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. The theme is dressing as your type. 

DRAMA CLUB 

Interested in being part of the next theater production here at LDH? The drama club is starting up again once more! Calling all secondary LDH actors to come audition for our production of the Murderous Mansion of Mr. Uno by Don Zolidis. This is happening in the drama room @ 3-5 pm Monday, February 6th or Wednesday, February 8th. Call backs will be happening on Friday,  February 10th. For more information join the google classroom for updates (course code posted outside of the drama room). 

Sports

The Senior Girls Volleyball team won 3-0 against St. Joes on February 2nd!

On February 6th, the Senior Boys Basketball team will be having a game at St. Pius X so be on the lookout for that! 

And, at the end of the week, on February 10th both the Junior Girls and Junior Boys Volleyball teams will be playing at the Marauders tournament.

On February 13th, our school’s Senior Boys Basketball team will strike again against John McCrae right after school in the secondary gym, so try to be there! Then Thursday of that week, which is the 16th, the Junior Girls Volleyball team will be at the EOM tournament.

SPECIAL: Brianna Normand, an Athlete of the week and a member of our swim team broke the NCSSAA record for Senior Girls in both 50 fly and 50 free back in December!

Upcoming Events

SCHOOL ASSEMBLY 

This month we will be having an assembly on black history month. The BSU will be running this assembly at the end of the month and they will also be taking questions from the audience about black history. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity! 

VALENTINE’S DAY CANDY GRAMS 

Send a lollipop with a note to your friend, love interest, or secret admirer. Come down and purchase a candy to send out for a nice price of only a dollar! This will take place from February 6th to February 10th. 

VALENTINE MATCHMAKER FUNDRAISER 

The Valentine's Day fundraiser is essentially a Valentine's Day dating service. Student council provides a free online survey that students can complete, and the tool they use will then email you a link to obtain a personalized PDF copy for each student which lists their most compatible classmates. The price is $2 to obtain the pdf. This is how the student council plans to generate money for a school dance. 


BLACK HISTORY: A DAY OF CELEBRATION

The OCDSB’s department of Family and Community Engagement will be hosting an in-person event to celebrate Black Excellence on February 11, 2023 from two to four in the afternoon. Meghan Stewart, founder of Mindfulness Meghan will be making an appearance. For more information, visit this link, found on the school website.
