Cross Country - Western Conference

Freda Radnoff

October the 18th was a tough day for Longfield’s cross country team, but every one of them rose up to the challenge.

It was their second race located at Mooney’s Bay and, luckily, the buckets of rain we received the day before cleared up for the big day. Longfields proudly wore their signature purple singlets and some even sported purple war paint for the occasion. The races all varied in lengths according to your grade, ranging from 4 to 6 kilometers. It was very mixed terrain from the forest, to the beach, to the infamous Mooney’s Bay hill. Unfortunately for the senior grades, this hill had to be mounted three times!! All members of the team were very supportive of each other, cheering fellow racers along at checkpoints the entire way. Everybody worked their hardest, with some of the members placing within the top ten. A shoutout goes to the senior girls for leading our school to rank second place overall for their division. Another big shoutout goes to the teachers who devotedly put in the time to get everybody ready and made it all happen; Mr Mochizuki, Ms Adams and Ms Atkinson.

The next race is an even bigger one; the city championships on Thursday, October 27th. They will yet again face the dreaded big hill, but this time with all the more speed.
