Halloween Spirit Day and Costume Contest
In October, the brand new school year kicked off with our very first spirit day—which was really a spirit day and contest hybrid. Students came to school on Friday the 29th in handmade or top-of-the-line ensembles. From dinosaurs to detectives to our very own Mr. Harris, we had it all. Check out our winners below!
Clubs
As the year begins to wind up and we fall back into a routine, an assortment of clubs are seeing a return! Listed below are some organizations currently in operation at LDH.
DSU
At the Diverse Student Union club, students are given a safe space and the opportunity to discuss world events and issues with maturity and respect. Find DSU on Instagram @ldh.dsu. Meetings are held virtually after school on Wednesdays.
Mathletes
With other Mathletes, students connect with experts in STEM and write math contests which strengthen their logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Meetings are held on Thursdays, after school. Find LDH Mathletes on Instagram @ldh_mathletes.
Model UN
At LDH’s Model UN club, students sharpen their debate, research, and public speaking skills in a professional environment. Students with an interest in politics and world issues are encouraged to join. Meetings are held on Mondays, after school, in Mr. Soto’s classroom.
Waterloo Canadian Senior and Intermediate Math Contest
On the morning of November the 17th, a handful of students sat down in the cafeteria to write Waterloo’s CISM Math contest, a collection of challenging problems that tested their ability to problem-solve. Stay on the lookout for other math contests throughout the year, and make sure to keep in touch with our Mathletes team!
Toy Mountain
Toy mountain is back at LDH for the holiday season, brand new and improved! This year, our student council is running a toy collection for underprivileged children in the community from November 29 to December 15. To help our students reach a goal of 500 toys, we challenged a few brave teacher volunteers to dares! Scroll down to watch Mr. Elliot get pied in the face.
As of the morning of December 15, we have collected a total of 505 toys and raised $700 in monetary donations.
Thanks, everyone!
