Is The New Wonka Movie Going to be Good?

by Noah Aguilar-Matta

Wonka is a prequel film by Warner Bros Pictures and will

give us a look into the chocolatier's origins before he became the Wonka we've come to know over the years

What we know

The new Wonka movie was announced back in 2016 by Warner Brothers, but pictures and a trailer only started to surface only a few months ago.

So far, the known cast includes Timothée Chalamet playing the famed Willy Wonka, Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa, and Rowan Atkinson (famous for playing the live action version of Mr. Bean) as a priest.

It is Willy Wonka's origin story, showing how he became the popular chocolate factory owner portrayed by Johnny Depp in 2005. Here, Timothée Chalamet plays Willy in his younger years, as he takes on the all-powerful Chocolate Cartel in order to open his first sweet shop.

My opinion

Now that the trailer has been released, I am very excited for this movie. Yet, every time it gets mentioned people say it looks bad. Why?

This movie has the same writer and director pair as the Paddington movies and I have yet to hear of anyone disliking those movies; they’re genuinely excellent. There’s no reason not to trust the duo.

Not only is Hugh Grant a hit in pretty much all his roles, but he loves playing smaller side roles such as this one. He has even worked with Paul King and Simon Farnby as the villain in Paddington 2 and is possibly the best comedic villain I know of.

Timothée Chalamet looks great as Wonka, with far more potential to be a great character.

Am I only seeing reviews from negative people or does this movie really seem like a potential flop to most people?
