Teacher's Pets: Grade 7 Teachers

Every month The Raven's Call will feature the beloved pets of the various departments at LDH. This month the focus is on Grade 7 Teachers!

Spirit

Mr. Stone

Many of our staff and students have already heard about Spirit countless times, and I was really pleased that LDHSS is having staff write about their pets here. My cat's name is Spirit, and he just turned 17 years old on March 5th. He's always embodied the name as he is still energetic and playful even in his old age. He still greets me at the door, goes up and down my stairs, and jumps up on my bed. This photo was taken at the beginning of March and I chose it because he also still manages to jump up on my kitchen counters and across my kitchen. I got him in 2006 when he was 6 weeks old (6 years before I started working at LDHSS) and he's seen me through a number of adventures, and hopefully more to come.

Higgins

Mr. Douglas

Higgins became part of our family as a puppy in September 2021. He’s a Labrador. This means Lorrie and I have to keep the fridge locked. He’s bright and LOVES all food. He’s the calmest dog we’ve ever had, and a great pal for our son, Owen.

Juno

Ms. Bertels

Juno is a 6 year old springer spaniel with loads of energy and personality - he loves VERY long walks and hikes and hours of cuddles!

Bauer & Easton

Ms. Forbes

Bauer (Ieft) is a 10 year male tabby cat who is your typical "scaredy cat". The moment he hears a noise or knows there are guests in the house, he runs and hides under the bed. His favourite toy, a laser pointer, is the only thing that might lure him out from hiding.

Easton (right) is a 10 year old female black cat who is very friendly and often behaves more like a dog. On a daily basis, as soon as she hears my vehicle pull in the driveway, she runs down to greet me as I enter the front door. She loves to socialize with family and friends, will fetch items and come when you whistle. He mannerisms are completely opposite to her brother Bauer.

Nyla

Ms. Bishop

Introducing Miss Nyla. This long hair dilute calico is 15 years young. She began as a playful kitten in love with anyone who could give her a good scratch behind her ear. During her "teen" years and early adult life she became a rebel defending and protecting the one that feeds her at all costs. Despite being disliked by everyone other than her owner, Nyla has softened in her old age. She is frail, but will take a break from her 6 hour nap to greet everyone with a soft purr, a rub against the leg or a short foot sniff to say hello.

Gus and Cash

Ms. Porter

Gus is a 120 pound Wolfadoodle and Cash is a 42 pound English Springer Spaniel -they run free in the trees on our property and love to go swimming and play ball. They also attend all special event such as the Truck Shows and Snowmobile Shows.
