A couple design/engineering strengths for me are using Rhino to 3D model and coming up with creative design ideas. A point of growth where I don’t have much experience is coding and Fusion.
Three things I want to commit to for my documentation in this class are taking time to write detailed descriptions, taking many clear photos that show the full project, and showing my creative design process.
PBC Ideas
Here were our six design ideas! It was a pumpkin, dragon, guy pooping, traffic light, sun, and plane. We ended up going with the plane design because we were excited to make a blinking red light on the tail.
Shaped PCB Design
Raj and I worked on this PCB design of a plane. There are 8 white LED acting as window lights, and one red blinking light on the top back wing. One thing I will remember about printed circuit board designs is how to use fushion, and how to read schematics!
Speaker Design Ideas
The 3 designs on the right are my favorites! It's a cat clock speaker, old fashioned TV, and fish.
Post-it Feedback
Most of the feedback I got was that a lot of people really liked my fish design! A good chunk also said it seems really hard to model in Rhino. I noticed I need to figure out how to fit the speaker electronics in my design, maybe in the base or inside the fish. I also should enclose the speakers somehow, and will probably do them seperate!
"Phase Two" Design Drawing
I think this is an excellent design to build because it's unique, gives me a challenge, and I really like fishes!
This is going to be a really complicated design to model in Rhino because of it's organic shapes and details, as well as fitting in the electronics.
Mostly Finished Speaker Design
At this point, I'm mostly done modeling my speaker. I modeled a hexagonal container below each speaker to contain the electronics, and the lid is attached by magnets with a slight gap to let the sound-reactive LED lights shine through. I've modeled the 3D printed case that holds the speakers, and I've shown a rough shape of each fish to show how the placement would work. I'm hoping to create my fishes with air-dry clay, and for times sake I'm not going to model them very much in Rhino.
