Hello!
A design/engineering strength is creativity and usage of the wood shop. I am also proficient in the metal shop and with the laser cutter, I would say electronics is where I struggle the most.
An area of growth is definitely circuitry, it can be hard for me to grasp at times so I want to solidify my understanding of the way basic circuitry works.
I want to commit to keeping an open mind, always persevering, and thinking out of the box as I take on analog and digital.
Me and my partner Lizzi chose the ladybug for our design! We chose it because it was a simple but cute shape that incorporated spots which we could place our LEDs on.
Me and my partner made a red ladybug shaped board and aligned the LEDs of our circuit board to be the dots of the ladybug. I will remember how to use the platform Eagle, which we used for the circuit board, as well as how to properly lay out a schematic diagram.
These are my initial sketches for my speaker. I'm probably gonna do either the frying pan, toilet paper, or Happy Meal. I'm concerned about what fitting all the wires might look like and the materials I will use.
After Looking at my feedback I'm going to choose my frying pan design for my speaker. I'm going to be thinking about the height of the pan itself and how I can best condense the wires into the flatter surface.
This is my speaker enclosure design plan. I plan to put the speakers into the yolk holes. The "yolks" that outline the speakers will be made of yellow acrylic and the white of the egg beyond it out of white acrylic. The pan base part will be made entirely out of 3 pieces of sheet metal, two circles, and a strip that I will fold around the circles. The handle will be made of turned wood if given time but if not will be made out of thicker metal.
This is my carboard prototype! The hot glue gun broke in the beginning of me making it so I had to shift gears :,(. None the less I'm happy with the final product and seeing the sizing and the way the pieces line up together I know the slight adjustments I need but am confirmed that the basics of everything are all good for when I start building.
Final bread board asf. This was a struggle especially connecting the speakers bc my pcb board would not work for the life of me and I had to switch out a new one. It was very annoying and very stressful but now it is done and it works and I love it! I hope you love it too.
PCB Board and Schematic
I worked with Katie on this project. In order to even out our contributions we would switch off per section according to the schematic building guide. I learned more about the way circuits work and the flow of electricity.
Microcontroller Problems
We did not get time to complete a challenge but were able to the introductory portions of showcasing a smiley face on the screen: gist
Microcontroller Challenge
Me and Sofia made our microcontroller connect to the internet and show a popular news headline from the NYT.: gist
For my digital project I am planning on doing what I did before and making a microcontroller that connects to the internet and shows a popular news headline from the NYT. I will use a microcontroller to do this. It will be a stand alone project and if I have time I will make it a mount or stand to make it a little cuter.
Say hello to my unsoldered circuit board!
Designed PCB Board
Wave a greeting at my soldered PCB board. It is a ladybug with resistors, LEDs, and a switch. I designed the board with my partner Lizzy.
Fully Soldered PCB Board
My PCB board is finally fully soldered with working speakers and Bluetooth! I used the PCB board me and my partner made.
Speaker Enclosure Progress
This is my current speaker enclosure! I am almost done but to complete it I need to do some sanding as a pretty final touch.
Digital Project
Here is the link to my code:
I wanted to make my micro controller be able to connect to wifi and display a popular New York Times Headline. I had some trouble figuring out the dynamics of the wifi and managing the secrets.py file but I powered through.
Final Amplifier Documentation
I made a frying pan with a double yolk egg in the middle with the speakers in the yolks. I am most satisfied with the egg and just making my vision come to life overall as well as being able to get everything done and being so efficient. If I were to start over I would try to make the metal a little more clean and be more exact with my measurements. I will take my new knowledge of using the shops pit and going with the flow in future projects.
