An engineering strength I have is my problem-solving mindset as well as my nature to be a creator/builder.
An area for growth in engineering is my skills/familiarity with design software.
In terms of documenting my learning and projects, I commit to ensuring that all of my uploaded pictures are of the highest quality possible. I also commit to being as descriptive as possible in my descriptions. Lastly, I commit to making my documentation so clear and easy to follow that anyone could use it as instructions to replecate my projects and assignments.
PCB Design Ideation 9/2/24
Mari and I chose to use my design of an F-22 fighter jet because of its shape, which wasn't too complex yet still interesting to look at.
Board Layout
Schematic ile
Mari and I made an F-22 fighter jet-shaped PCB.
First, we made a parallel breadboard circuit with 8 LEDs and 8 resistors for each. This helped us get a general idea of how to draw the schematic of the circuit on fusion.
After making the schematic file, we imported an f-22 design from Rhino that I traced from a Google image. I exported this to Fusion as a .dxf file and arranged our components. I then used the auto-router tool to connect all the components correctly, making sure to check for errors.
From this project, I will remember the process of arranging and routing components on a PCB shape/design
Speaker Design Ideation 9/11/24
These are my 3 favorite designs that I have so far. A goal I have for this project is to make a design that I feel represents me and one that I'll be proud to show people in college.
The first idea I circled is a statue of a person holding up a boombox 'enthusiastically'. I would probably have to 3d print the statue and then make the boombox out of another material. I feel like this represents me because I've always loved playing loud music and I think the design embodies that.
The second idea I circled is a speaker made in the shape of the iconic Transamerica Pyramid building in downtown SF. I remember being fascinated by the shape/architecture of this building ever since I saw it for the first time as a kid. I like this design because it would allow me to rep the Bay Area even harder in college, which I look forward to doing.
The third idea I circled is a speaker made from a model rear end of a car with amplifiers in place of exhaust tips. I specifically decided to use the design of the Brabus version of a Mercedes E63s because it's one of my favorite car designs ever. I feel that this design represents me because I've always been really interested in/fascinated by cars and the sounds made by bigger engines such as a v8 (the same engine in this car).
Speaker Design Feedback 9/13/24
Based on the feedback I received, there was some confusion surrounding my plans for the composition/dimensions of the car design. This is due to my lack of a detailed explanation of how I plan to build this speaker.
The car design is also the most favored of the three, receiving praise for its 'creativity' and 'intricacy.'
There was also some concern about the time commitment that would be needed to build the car design, which I welcome and look forward to.
Speaker Phase 2 Drawing 9/17/24
I believe this is a good design to meet my growth goals of improving my familiarity with design software because it'll be a good opportunity for me to learn the process of modeling complex 3D designs that are both practical and applicable.
This will challenge my current skill set by forcing me to find a way to bring unconventional/complex designs to life with the limitations of physics, the provided tools and materials, and the assignment. This is a skill that is essential to engineering and the problem-solving aspect of it.
Cardboard Prototype 10/9/24
What did you learn from your prototype?
I learned about the immense importance of organization when it comes to design and engineering.
What is your idea?
I want to essentially embed a speaker into a model car. I want to make the car out of metal pieces welded together, include acrylic in place of glass/plastic elements, and incorporate LEDs.
Does your design need modifications?
My design is mostly fine as it is, but I think I'll need to design mounting inside the car for the LEDs and PCB.
Digital Project 11/14/24
What is your idea for the digital project?
My idea is to use LEDs to light up the taillights and headlights of the car, and to add a volume control Knob where the Gas tank would be.
What microcontroller and (if applicable) additional electronics will you use?
Will the project be part of your speakers or standalone?
My project will be part of my speakers.
