Hello Post
A design/engineering strength + growth: I have a lot of ideas and I like to think outside of the box. One thing I can grow is being efficient and not spending too much time on little details.
The first thing I want to commit to is creating clear visible pictures. I want to make sure the pictures are big enough for people to see the work and design put into it and the pictures to have a clean background so it focuses on my work.
The next thing is to create concise, but clear explanations of my work.
Lastly, making my documentations easy to follow so that if someone were to follow my documentations, they could easily recreate my project.
PCB Design
We made an oyster circuit board with leds on the pearl and on the edges of the shell. For our project, I worked with Mika and Riya. One thing I will remember about printed circuit boards is how to make the schematic of it and design custom layouts for the shape of the board.
10 Ideas
My first favorite one is the "hurricane" speaker. I like the ocean so I decided to simulate that on the speaker. One of my nicknames was also hurricane so that speaker could carry a part of me. My second favorite is the futuristic idea. I want a design that can be both a speaker and decoration for my room. My last favorite idea is the smores. I think it could be a creative and presentable design as speaker.
Post-It Feedback
For the designs, I should think about adding two speakers to enhance the sound. All the designs are able to be executed but if I did either of the designs, I would need to plan out how I would construct it. There are also a lot of room to add details using leds, and different materials.
Modeled Enclosure Design
This design requires a lot of thinking and problem solving. I will need to figure out how to put everything together and be able to construct each piece in an efficient way. This will help me develop my engineering skills further.
Currently, I am moderately comfortable working with wood. This design will require a lot more work with wood and being able to do everything in a timely matter.
These are the three different views of my model. I made a futuristic-crystal speaker. The outer base of the model and the bottom is made of walnut, and the inside is made of acrylic. There will be a light inside the speaker, which is not previewed in this model. The black circle is the speaker.
Cardboard Prototype
Reflection:
My idea was a crystal like futuristic speaker design. I tried to go for a gemstone shape as presented in the model. When I was making my prototype. I encountered a lot about the restrictions with my design and learned to adjust to whatever issue came up. The one adjustment my model needs is that originally, I was going to make two of these crystal shaped speaker designs, but I ran out of material so I narrowed it to one. I also need to adjust the size of the speaker holes in order to fit it into my model.
Amp Circuit Board
Answer these questions:
Is there something about the circuit you understand now that you've spent time prototyping it?
I now have a better understanding of how schematics work. Before, I couldn't understand anything and could barely read the symbols. Now, I have a good sense and also how the circuit works and where all the pieces are connected together.
Name one part that is a complete mystery to you. Look it up on Google or Generative AI. What does it say the function of that part is?
One part that was a mystery to me is the ferrite bead. The function of a ferrite bead is used to improve the PCB's power quality and filter high frequency power supply noise
Amp PCB Design & Schematic
I worked with Ved on the PCB board and design. Through this process, I learned the different meanings of the symbols in the schematics and the basics of how to construct it. I also learned how to connect different parts together.
Unsoldered Circuit Boards
Shaped PCB project
What was the original idea
The orginal idea was to create an oyster with a pearl in the middle. The pearl would glow up and then we decided to add lights on the edges of the design.
Who did you work with
I worked with Mika and Riya.
Are you happy with the product?
The product turned out better than I expected. The product actually looks like an oyster and it is presented nicely.
Soldered amp circuit
Enclosure process
I am on track to finish the project. I need to prioritize building the enclosure and gluing all the parts together the rest of my wood pieces together. My amplifier and digital project is all built and coded.
Final Amplifier Documentation
Reflection:
Goals: For the speaker to look like a crystal and for it to light up based on the music.
I made a crystal-like shaped speaker. It glows according to the amplitude of the music. There is a tray at the bottom to store small miscellaneous items. I am the most satisfied with how my final speaker turned out to look. I had some skeptism on the design but it turned out how I expected it to be. As much as I liked the final result, I probably would change my design so that I used a less transparent acrylic. I wasn't able to find a way to disguise my circuit board because the acrylic was see through. The most impactful skill I learned was how the circuit board works and how to code/design one. I will most likely work on a circuit board in future projects I would be involved in.

During this process, I learned more about how the circuit works and python. I learned how to combine the microphone and light circuit. The only challenges I ran into was the sodder kept breaking off of the wire from the circuit, so I had to resodder them multiple times.
