Design/Engineering Strength & Area for Growth
I think a design/engineering strength I have is my ability to learn and adjust quickly. In the past, I often have had to pivot from my final project because of mistakes or things I had overlooked. A weakness I have is my knowledge about circuits. In D&T, the electronic shop was the most difficult for me, but I am excited to perfect and learn new skills.

This semester I want to focus on:
taking clear and enticing photos of my projects
learn from previous mistakes and implement what I have learned from them in future projects
organize my subpage well
Shaped PCB Ideation 01/23/2025
The final design we decided to choose is the pineapple. We chose this design because we thought that it was unique and would allow us to use different colored LED lights, green for the leaves and yellow for the fruit.
Shaped PCB Design 01/30/2025
Cerys, Colin, and I made a pineapple for our shaped PCB design. We will have two colors of LEDs, green for the leaves and yellow for the body. One thing I will remember about printed circuit board design is to always check your board outline thoroughly for any defects/holes.
Speaker Design Ideation 02/04/2025
Speaker Design Feedback 02/06/2025
I got feedback on how I could store the electronics in my caterpillar design and whether or not my designs would be able to be completed on time. People also said that I could add some mini props to my stove/oven design.
Speaker Phase 2 Design Drawing 02/10/2025
I think this is an excellent design to meet my learning goals because it will allow me to work more with keeping my design compact, especially in the electronics part, as I want my speaker to not be that big. I will also have an opportunity to make my speaker visually enticing and really detailed.
I am challenging my current skill set because I will be spending a lot of time with circuits, something I am currently not particularly comfortable with. I will also be 3D-printing some of my design, something I have never done before.
Stove Speaker Modeled Enclosure 02/28/2025
This is my modeled design of my stove speaker. The stovetops will be the speakers, and one knob will be an on-off switch and the other will be a volume one. The digital project will be in the hole above the speakers, and the door beneath the knobs will be magnetized to the wood body. I will try to make hinges on the inside as well.
Stove Speaker Cardboard Prototype 03/05/2025
My idea is to make a stove speaker where the speakers are the stove tops. From my prototype, I learned the exact size and dimensions of my final model. I don't think my design needs modifications, but I do need to keep in mind how the thickness of the wood may force me to change the dimensions of some areas of my design.
Amplifier Circuit on Breadboard 03/24/2025
Now that I have spent time prototyping the circuit, I understand more about the components of the circuit and what each one does to help make the speaker work.
One part of the circuit that is still a mystery to me is how the audio jack and the potentiometer work together. According to Google, they allow you to control the volume or balance of an audio signal by using the potentiometer to vary the resistance in the circuit, which affects the signal strength that reaches the output jack.
Amplifier PCB Design & Schematic 04/03/2025
For this project, I worked with Lucy. Something I learned about the circuit during the process of making the schematic and the board was how different parts of a circuit work together. It was hard to see when I was doing the breadboard, but doing the schematic made it much clearer.
Unsoldered Circuit Board (04/22/2025)
Shaped PCB Project (04/30/2025)
The original idea for this project was to make a pineapple. I worked with Cerys and Colin. We chose this design because it allowed us to use different colored LED lights, green for the leaves and yellow for the fruit. I am happy with the product because I think that it is exactly what we envisioned. It looks like a pineapple and uses different colored LED lights.
Soldered Circuit Board (05/13/2025)
Enclosure Build Process (05/15/2025)
Right now, I have built and cut most of my enclosure and attached the speakers. I still need to 3D print the knobs and glue all the pieces together.
Final Amplifier Documentation (05/23/2025)
The goal for my amplifier was to make a stove where the speakers were the stove tops and the knobs would control the speaker being on/off and the volume.
What did you make?
I made a stove speaker, where the speakers are the stovetops. The knobs can control the speaker's on/off status and the volume of the music. You can also open the speaker to charge the battery and see inside it.
Thinking about the work you created, what are you most satisfied with this semester?
I am most satisfied with the look and design of my speaker. I think it is very similar to what an actual stove looks like. The knobs also can twist, and the bottom opening can open and close like on a real stove.
If you were to start over, knowing what you know, what would you do differently?
If I were to start over, I would make the enclosure bigger so all of the electronics could fit inside the speaker more easily. I had to squish a lot of the electronics together, making a lot of the things I soldered come apart.
What did you learn this semester that will likely still be with you 2 years from now?
This semester, I learned a lot about Python code and how it can be used in so many ways. It was also interesting to see how similar it was to normal human language.
If you didn’t finish, what held you back?
