An Engineering Strength: I am really creative and open-minded. I love creative projects and workshops! I am really committed to my art and I can't stop until it's what envisioned.
An Area for Growth: I sometimes get caught up in my own thoughts and have trouble focusing. I also get distracted by conversations with friends at the same table.
Three things I commit to doing in my design documentation:
Take the best possible Photo
Having a well-organized portfolio
Make sure to record every mistake and step in my process throughout the class!
PCB Design Idea
The idea Nikolai and I had was to create the side profile of Gru as the shape for our circuit board! We would use a total of 12 LEDs on Gru to represent clothing and other features (possibly multi-colored). The base of the circuit board would be black.
Final PCB Design
I learned how to organize a schematic onto a 2D plane in and customize it. It was really fun to move around all the pieces and to see where they fit best!
I learned how to create parallel circuits and how to maintain a connection between a bunch of LEDs and a switch.
10 Ideation Sketches
10 in-class ideations
Main Ideation
Final Ideation Sketch
I picked this design because of how multifunction it is besides just being a boring speaker. It has a tic-tac-toe board at the top, a clear acrylic side so the user can look inside, and great sound output with two speakers located on either side of the box (both sides with speaker are identical).
Final Rhino Design
Cardboard Model of Speaker
I learned how important getting the correct size for each individual piece is, and how vital it is to the structural integrity of the design. I also think I might change the way my speaker fits together, as I think I will add tabs to increase structural integrity and seamlessness of the sides.
Speaker Circuit Bread Board (Done)
I learned how vital the surge protector and surge monitor is. As too high of voltage can make your circuit explode/heat up. To test out the circuit and to make sure it works before soldering things together. Making mistakes on a breadboard is easy to fix while on a soldered board it is more difficult.
PCB Design
This is our board design. Amelia and I decided this is going to be what the final PCB looks like, and we chose to write "New Manhattan" to identify our boards because that is our friend Catalina's favorite Philz order
This is our schematic, it shows all of the different connections and wires needed to make everything work properly.
Python Challenge #1
For challenge #1 I just printed two lists, one of numbers, and one of emotions.
Python Practice with Feather Controller
Angelina and I made the Feather microcontroller do a couple of unique things including a light bouncing across the screen while changing colors randomly. We also made the four different sides of the change color and light up. (image)
Python Challenge with Screen
I did this challenge with Ella. Ella and I decided to create a code that scrolled text across our screen and to display an image on our screen of the poop emoji (shown above in the image).
Unsoldered Circuit Board Design
Digital Project Design
My idea is to use a circuit playground amplifier to produce enough light so each mosaic tile of the tic tac toe board lights up a color of the users choice. It requires a switch to turn it off as well as to change the color.
Finished Speaker Circuit
This is my completed soldered speaker circuit it consists of two speakers, a switch, a volume control dial, and a external charging port.
Cut Outs for Speaker
These are my cut out X and O pieces that you would play Tik Tac Toe with. My next step would be assembling the top part of my speaker creating the 3 boxes you would play tik tac toe with. My goal is to finish the box aspect of the speaker before the end of the year.
Semi-Finished Speaker
I made a Tic Tac Toe board speaker that is both a board-game and a speaker. I am most satisfied with my soldering and circuit board designing work as I never had to redo a board or solve any last minute issues with my circuit. If I were able to do this project a second time I would definitely try to manage my time better and probably focus a lot more during class and try to get stuff done. Learning how to lazar cut is a lifelong skill that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my time here at Lick.
