Thank you for all the positive messages around the new barrier and the SLT presence at the end of the school day. We are trying to do our bit.
With that in mind and with the darkening evenings upon us, I would ask all of the community to think carefully about how we drive near the school and also where we choose to cross the road. We are still seeing some children choosing to cross at blind corners and from behind cars, which can be difficult for drivers to see. We are still seeing some drivers thinking about their work for the day rather than the speed and care they are taking on the road. Work can wait. Always. As a school, we are working hard to improve the road safety around our local roads and continue to push the highways agency to prioritise our needs. These plans are shared in the Week 4 Newsweb. In the meantime, please do work together to support the community roads to be safe. We do have one informal idea to share below - if you like it, try it!
One new idea is to encourage (we can't enforce) a one way system for cars. If the majority of cars all come to the school from Kenilworth Drive/Rochester Way but then leave via Little Green Lane, this would make some of the turning around challenges far more manageable. This is an ideas from a concerned parent... if you are able, please try and follow this idea next week and see if we can make things safer for the community. (See map below)
Kind regards,
Mr Roberts
Suggested one-way route for parents in cars: Whilst the journey is slightly longer, the reduction of cars idling as they wait for cars from different directions to pull in/make room, may well counter that extra petrol use. Anyway, it's just an idea and it requires the community to give it a go... over to you!
Parent Voice
helping us make things better!
Please do take a little time to give us your honest feedback - what is working well and what could be better. We have only had 80 responses from a possible 612!
Please also share how you might be able to help the school with our 75th anniversary coming up and with learning. Eight responses so far! Thank you for your offers of support - we will be in touch in the Spring Term with a plan, dates and actions for everyone!
With seven voices shared on the homework debate (see Parent Community Support Survey - green QR code below) the feedback would suggest that we get this about right with most happy, some wanting more and some wanting less. Seven parents represents just over 1 % of your voices...what does the community think about homework? If you don't have strong feelings, you can have a look at the research: https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/education-evidence/teaching-learning-toolkit/homework
Your honest feedback helps us to do the best we can do, with the resources we have. Please complete the governor survey to let us know what is working and what we can do better!

A huge thank you to the committed FOLG team. We had our very important FOLG AGM meeting on Monday and welcomed 10 dedicated school members (including myself.) Thank you to all the members and volunteers who allow us to put on the huge range of successful events to raise money for our children. Please see the posters below for a flavour of the incredible impact.
A special mention and thank you to Lou McCourts and Monika Brightwell for there fantastic contributions as Co-Chair and Finance Secretary last year. They will be missed. We are very pleased to welcome Zoe Harley to the role of Finance Secretary and Cat Hutchinson taking on the whole chair role. With a summer fair committee about to be set up, do you think you could help support and shape the event to help the community? email FOLG@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk to offer your support!
New Hope Christmas Gift Bag Appeal with Little Green Junior School.pdf
Christmas giving with New Hope Homelessness Charity in Watford
One of our Year 4 students, Callum, has worked with his parents over the last few years to create Christmas gift boxes for New Hope Homeless Shelter. This year, he suggested that other students might want to take part, which we thought was a great idea.
We are partnering with New Hope to provide Christmas gift bags for the 26 children in the families they support, ranging from 8 months to 15 years, and hope that lots of our students and families will take part! (Please note, the charity has requested gift bags, rather than boxes, to avoid damage in transit).
After half term, there will be a Christmas tree in reception with gift tags on it for each of the 26 children with their gender and age and some suggestions about what you might want to include in the gift bag. There are also many adults being supported by New Hope, so people can also create gift bags for them too, if we have more people wanting to take part. Gift bags can be done independently or in groups.
As an alternative option, there is an Amazon wish list for New Hope, which has some of the items for adults, as well as some specific gifts for the children. Some of these are larger/more expensive, so you can always club together in a group to purchase one of these. If purchasing from the wish list please put Little Green as part of the donor reference so they know it’s from us. The link for the wish list is now live, and you can access it here.
Things to include for children:
Books, toys, stationery, gel pens, notebooks, crafts, activities, colouring pencils, pretty tights, toiletries, hat/gloves, clothes (size up), selection box/bag of sweets
Things to include for adults:
Toiletry sets, box of chocolates, tin of biscuits, family board games, hats, gloves, photo frames, hot water bottle, Christmas decorations
*Please ensure no toiletries or edible items contain alcohol
New Hope has also requested that the gifts inside the bags are left unwrapped, so that it is possible to see what is being given to the different children and families. If you would like to make them look festive, then tissue paper, glitter, a Christmas message etc. would be lovely (also, please remember only to use first names if signing the message, for GDPR purposes.)
We are asking that all gift bags be brought to school by Friday 8th December. We will also be asking some students to help bring the donations to New Hope with us.
Celebrating World Kindness Day on 13th November
To celebrate World Kindness Day, and support people in our community, we are also collecting advent calendars for Watford Foodbank ahead of Christmas. If you would like to donate one, please bring this to school by Tuesday 21 November and leave this in the box in reception.

Niam represents Hertfordshire County as well as the British Juniors. For the first time, he was invited to take part in an international tournament in Rome which ran over 4 days. This was such an incredible opportunity for him.
Rome Classic 2023 took place at the beautiful Terre Dei Consoli Golf Club, a European Challenge Tour Venue, hosted the best junior golfers in Europe & the US.
· First time Niam has played 36 holes over two days. 54 holes if you count the practice day.
· First time he has played against some of the best players in Europe & US.
· First time he has played on European Greens, massive difference to UK ones.
· First time representing the UK & North U.S Kids London Tour.
· First time he shot 78 on the final Sunday and 36 on the back 9.
· Finished top 8 in Europe.
We’re incredibly proud of him. Huge congratulations from the Little Green community!
