They say it takes a village to raise a child. I think it also takes a village to bring life to a school. This week I have had the pleasure in celebrating the incredible community spirit alive at Little Green and within our local community.
Little Green has the privilege of leading both the Student Council and Eco Council Forums in partnerships with Three Rivers District Council and friends at Croxley Danes and York House.
Yesterday, we welcomed parents to our Open Morning (slides embedded.) Our Year 6 School Cabinet were an incredible headline act in sharing their thoughts and leading the tours. The feedback from all involved was very positive. Do remember, if you want a tour, please contact the office:
- Every day is an Open Day -
We are proud of what we do - all of the time!
Our incredible FOLG (Friends of Little Green team) are setting up for the Elfridges experience next week: the Christmas Season with all of the associated festivities and celebrations is upon us! Carol Service, Christmas Production and Christmas Dinner are all just around the corner.
Do please share the good news in our community!
Finally, thank you for all the feedback in the School Survey. We continue to work hard to make sure everything is working as well as it can be. I am pleased this is recognised by the Parent Body with some very positive responses. There is always more to do and we will take questions seriously as always - there will be a careful analysis completed by the governors before they share the survey overview. One sneak preview- 94% of 126 respondents agree their child likes being at Little Green Junior School with no one disagreeing. For the 7 parents undecided... we will get there as a community!
Thank you for telling us - have you told the whole community? There are a range of social media community pages - Facebook etc. where we have the opportunity to share the amazing work of our Community and ensure our village knows just how positive your experiences of Little Green have been. Please share!
Do please share the good news in our community!
Luke and Jessica worked with twenty other schools in thinking about sustainability and what we can do as a school. This links to the statutory requirement for all schools to have a sustainability plan by 2024-25!
Next steps - Student Parliament to meet the Eco Council and agree how both councils can drive a sustainability action plan across the school...and beyond!
Six Eco Council representatives attended the Sustainability Forum at York House School. They were exposed to a range of sustainability ideas and messages complementing the Student Council Forum.
Next Step: To meet with the Student Cabinet and agree how we drive a Sustainability Action Plan forward - Exciting Environmental Times!
Our children were full of great questions and fully inspired by the event!
Well done to Elouise, Sora, Charlotte, Zoe, Lucas and Harry!
Doodle Winter Challenge
Get into the festive spirit this December with the Winter Calendar. Encourage your pupils to Doodle 'little and often’ to unlock wintery in-app rewards! The Winter Calendar can be found as a colourful icon on the My Robot page of DoodleMaths.
Between the 1st-24th of December, your child will unlock a door on their calendar by completing an exercise each day in DoodleMaths. They'll find a seasonal surprise hiding behind each one – and if they open all the doors, they'll receive a winter 2023 virtual badge!
- how we make decisions at Little Green Junior School...
We are currently working on a decision map to help everyone in our school understand how we reach decisions. If you are interested, have a look and let us know your thoughts. We use this approach with all decisions - Parent's Evening Development being a great example:
Majority found the evening work. There are some ideas to make things better with 11/20 suggesting they;d prefer class compared to 5/20 hall.
(Of note, I also surveyed local schools and 7/12 do use their hall.)
Teachers are happy with the current system and 9/10 prefer hall. Their reasoning includes keeping to time and staff wellbeing/safety.
A Middle Ground Trial:
Both groups acknowledged the importance of parents having a safe space to discuss any more personal matters. Both groups also agreed that, if a parent has had some meetings already, then having a Parent's Evening could be offered as optional - in agreement with both parties.
So our working plans weighing up the perspectives of all involved:
If there has been a meeting already and both school and home agree, Parents' Evening can become optional. This supports everyone's busy schedules.
We stick with the hall, BUT, look to redesign the spacing so meetings are at the edge of the hall offering a little more privacy.
Parents can, as always, request a more personal meeting at another time to discuss any concerning issues. This can be requested on the class Gmail.
This also allows any parents to have a longer meeting if they feel it is necessary - to be agreed with the teacher.
We would also like to encourage children to attend and hear the same messages next time!
Let us know what you think!
We had the pleasure of a Gymnastics Vaulting Display on Monday. Mr. Rivers was just by the curtain monitoring safety at all times! The children were...incredible!
Enjoy the video!

Stationery sets
Save yourself the summer stationery shopping stress and buy now! Sourced by Mr Flint so all of the equipment in the packs is school approved!
The flash sale price has unfortunately finished so packs will now be priced at a very competitive £10 (still far cheaper than you can source on the high street!) and can be ordered via: www.pta-events.co.uk/folg. The pack contains 2 writing pens, a green pen, 2 HB pencils, a pair of scissors (you can specify right or left handed), Pritt Stick, eraser, Boogie sharpener, 30 cm ruler, whiteboard pen, highlighter all contained in a clear pencil case. These can then be sent straight to your child's classroom or be held at the school office for you to pick up.
Second hand uniform
Good quality second hand uniform can be ordered from Faye via folg-uniform@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk - most items are just 50p.
