In Monday's SLT assembly I placed a bucket on a child's head and inferred I would be doing something unpleasant to him. There's an unlikely start to a school newsletter!
In reality, as I am sure most of you would expect, the assembly was showing us how, without facts, we can get worried, and our body can feel like we are in danger. When this happens, our body, automatically, releases hormones to prepare us for a fight or flight. Our heart beats faster...our body starts to dictate our behaviours. (In between giggling, Owen did report feeling a little unsure!)
So what do we do in situations where our body is leading our behaviour? In the assembly we looked at:
Thinking things through - Owen's giggles suggest he was not entirely convinced something bad would happen! This is not his experience of school behaviour support - he had facts to remember.
Controlling our breathing - telling our body that things are OK and that we do not need to fight or flight.
This term, we will be supporting the children to start to normalise their good behaviours - making stronger positive habits - together! We are also very excited about our upcoming Head's Together Virtual Drop-In where we will be talking together about these ideas in theory and in practice and taking your questions and suggestions. We do hope to see you there (details below.)
Other things to look forward to include developments for the 75th Celebration; our communications drive including Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) and a Podcast; and a range of infrastructure developments to engage and support learning. My own favourite will be the development of the school Museum!
Exciting things are happening at Little Green: we hope to see you getting involved in the coming months and all of us working together to make us the best we can be... Habit New Year!
We now have an Instagram account, where we will post daily @littlegreenjunior - do follow us! If there is anything you would like to see on there email us at hello@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk. Don't forget to update your child's Arbor consents if you would like to see their photo on our account.
We also have our school X (formerly Twitter) account. Again - follow us as we aim to share more Little Green stories, ideas and news in the future.
Coming soon....Classroom chatter - the Little Green Podcast.

Save yourself the summer stationery shopping stress and buy now! Sourced by Mr Flint so all of the equipment in the packs is school approved!
The flash sale price has unfortunately finished so packs will now be priced at a very competitive £10 (still far cheaper than you can source on the high street!) and can be ordered via: www.pta-events.co.uk/folg. The pack contains 2 writing pens, a green pen, 2 HB pencils, a pair of scissors (you can specify right or left handed), Pritt Stick, eraser, Boogie sharpener, 30 cm ruler, whiteboard pen, highlighter all contained in a clear pencil case. These can then be sent straight to your child's classroom or be held at the school office for you to pick up.
Second hand uniform
Good quality second hand uniform can be ordered from Faye via folg-uniform@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk - most items are just 50p.
