We received 50 responses to our Book Look Feedback request. Thank you for finding the time to share your views if you were able. Whilst only 15% of the school did feedback (see number of responses per year group) we take it that anyone that did, had something they were keen to share and so something useful for the school to reflect upon. Please see the general data specifics as well as responses to questions below:
Number of responses by year: Y3: 21, Y4: 13, Y5:10, Y6: 13 (Some responses covered multiple siblings hence the higher overall total.)
Some of the positive comments received:
"They understand when they are right and wrong and enjoy their learning being proud to show us what they have done."
"I can see improvements since September, and his level of understanding and imagination has grown in his written work too."
"I can see my child has been challenging themselves in their learning and taken on feedback."
Overall: 78% scored 7/10 or above. 90% 5 or above. 8% (4 responses) scored 3 or 4.
SEN: For parents of identified SEN children, the average score was 8/10.
We want this number to be even higher and recognise that we can further improve our developing systems, both in their implementation and also in our working with you to better understand them. The whole staff at Little Green are committed to developing our practice and improving so that we can be the best we can be for your children. Your feedback helps us get better! Please watch this space for some parent workshops to come in the summer term! Please do also ensure you discuss any concerns you have about your child's progress with their teacher and ask for more support from Year Group Leaders etc. should you still be left unsatisfied. We are all on the same team and want the very best outcomes for your child.
There were some excellent questions and queries regarding the Narration and Whole Class Feedback Approach which we have summarised and responded to below: We are always keen to work with parents to further support the children's development. We are all on the same team!
One comment and response we wanted to highlight for you:
Parent comment: "Isn’t this your job?"
School response:
We understand this perception from a small minority of parents. The reality is that we are a learning community and we have to work together to best support your children. A few sobering thoughts:
Children spend only 13.36% of their waking hours in school. https://www.naesp.org/sites/default/files/resources/2/Principal/2004/S-Op6.pdf
We all have a responsibility to work together to instill an awareness and a responsibility for all the many things our children will need, to become effective citizens …Leaving all this to the school will, in effect, disadvantage your children. Work with us!
Work with us as a team. The more you do, the better your child’s chances in life.
Ready to Learn Room - supporting everyone to learn
As a school we have been working hard to further develop our supportive approaches to those children struggling to consistently regulate their emotions. We recognise that this can impact negatively on the whole class's wellbeing. We also recognise that, quite often, a class of 30 children can cause a cognitive and sensory overload in children who struggle to manage their emotions. Please see the 'Ready to Learn' room plan below which we are developing and fully launching just after easter. Please see the flow diagram, above, to understand how the room will work for different groups of children. Finally, please do give us your feedback - we always listen!
4H and 3R joined forces on an investigation today! We modelled how (by bumping into each other!) how molecules change their behaviour according to their temperature, and observed how food dye behaves in cold water compared to hot water.
“The hot water had more energy and made the water change colour quicker!”
It was so nice to be out in the warm weather - and great to see the two year groups learning together.
In Y4 this week, we’ve been investigating whether there is a link between our age (in months) and our height. We’re doing this because we learnt that scientists use the length of sharks to estimate their age!
We also learned about Chromatography in Guided Reading, and finished our week by creating chromatography flowers. They also created a blooming water lily - as the water seeped into the tiny gaps in the paper flowers, it mimicked the capillary action used in real flowers, and the petals opened!
On Thursday, Year 6 were joined virtually by Paul, Jacky and Simon from the Journey Outreach team, a group that are associated with the National Holocaust Centre and Museum. Paul and the team shared the experiences of Steven, who was a Jewish child in Nazi Germany before being a part of the Kindertransport and seeking refuge in the United Kingdom. The children listened well and asked fantastic questions about life in 1930s Germany for Jewish people. The key message reiterated throughout the session was the need for 'upstanders' in society to prevent horrific events such as these from being repeated in the future.
Last week, Years 5 and 6 were fortunate to be taught music by Mr Tompkins, the head of music at Rickmansworth School. We learnt about music technology and how to use an online tool to record, loop and layer pieces of music together to create our own intros.
Year 6 were lucky enough to be invited to watch some of Croxley Danes' performance of Little Shop of Horrors today.
The children loved getting a flavour of secondary drama and teachers enjoyed seeing the familiar faces of some former pupils too.
Congratulations to all at Croxley Danes on their hard work.
On Tuesday, the Year 6 Boys and Girls teams representing Little Green at the County Indoor Athletics Championships at Wodson Park Sports Centre did extremely well. After qualifying for the finals in January, the team were extremely excited to compete against the very best from across Hertfordshire.
The Boys team scored an impressive 112 points and managed to finish in 7th place overall. An amazing achievement, putting themselves in the top 10 teams within the county. The Girls team scored a massive 206 points and finished runners up in their competition. An unbelievable achievement making them the 2nd best athletics team in Hertfordshire!
Congratulations to both teams, we are so proud of their fantastic achievements and the constant support the teams showed for each other on the day was so lovely to see.

CAR PARK REMINDER
Just a polite reminder that parents should not be driving into the car park for any reason. Only Blue Badge holders should be accessing the car park. Thank you.
