A wonderful video of our children reflecting on kindness as part of the Watford FC and Hertfordshire Kindness week. As a school, we are currently developing even more effective ways for children to reflect on their learning and narrate this to themselves and others. When children repeat things and articulate them in to their own words, they are more able to remember and recall these ideas and apply them to their learning in the future. Let's make sure we are always talking with our children and giving them the opportunity to share their own thoughts. This video is a testament the impact of this approach!
We have been increasing children's opportunities for Buddy Learning. When children talk about their learning, they learn it again and again. In re-sharing an experience or an idea, we come to understand it better. It is so lovely to see children supporting each other's learning and we look forward to seeing the wider impact on our community of learners - a community of talkers!
We currently have families keen to find out about Little Green as they consider the right school for their children. This may be as they reach Year 2 or as they consider joining Malvern Way. We may also have some parents new to the community or looking for an amazing school to support their child to thrive. Please see the information in the attached letter and pass on this link to anyone you would want to encourage to be a part of our amazing community! We share a range of ways for finding out about our school including a live Q and A session; our virtual tour; the website, as well as some in person tours: Click HERE for more information
We are delighted to share another opportunity to give children the chance to talk about learning. Hot on the heels of Dame Jaqueline Wilson's live author visit, we are delighted to be meeting Greg James, author and Radio 1 DJ, virtually, to delve into his books and understand his own approach to writing, authorship and his newest release, The Great Dream Robbery! Please click HERE for access to the letter sent out by Mr Hyde, English Lead, for more information and for ordering a copy with a signed book plate.
Last Wednesday two of our Student Parliament Cabinet members, Ava and Marissa, joined me at the Three Rivers District Council Offices to talk about democracy and consider how all of the 16 local state primary schools can work together to develop our curriculum approach. The children were able to talk about local democracy and the responsibilities of representing an electorate with local district Councillors Jon Tankard and Steven Cox. Look out for a local press release that will tell you more. It was very powerful to see children reflecting on how to make change happen and being inspired to return to their own schools impassioned to drive a difference. One school responded: "Thank you for continuing to enable this to happen. The two members of our school council that attended were buzzing with enthusiasm and eager to share what they heard and make things happen in our school."
A few weeks ago, I posted about our Science lesson when Year 5 learnt about the process of evaporation and we began to see the effects of this amazing physical process. Another few weeks on, and we have been absolutely amazed by the size of our crystals. There is still so much of the solution left to evaporate, so we'll keep going and see how large they will become. It just goes to show how amazing things can happen when we have patience and perseverance!
From Miss Reile - Science and Year 5 Leader.
Do look at the website front page blog for more learning examples across the school. www.littlegreen.herts.sch.uk
Anyone on the lower playground on Tuesday was given a live musical show from our incredibly talented Year 4 Cornet Players led by the ever-impressive Mr. Horton of the Hertfordshire Music Service. In such a short space of time, the children learned to create a range of notes, times, pitches, tunes and rhythms and impressed us all with their coordination and timing. Thank you to all the children for the wonderful experience. If you want your child to carry on their musical development, we offer a range of lessons including drums, flute, violin, piano and, of course, cornet!
Earlier this week we were down to one live covid case. Unfortunately we have had some positive cases since then. Currently we have one Year 4 case and four Year 5 cases. There is also some general winter illness around that may present at Covid.
We continue to watch as the numbers across the country slowly rise.
We continue to follow guidance.
