We are all so delighted that some of our community members have reached the Premier League Primary Stars Final. This is a tournament representing schools across the Country - and we are in the final representing Watford. On Thursday we watched the draw with the whole school and we are very excited for all the girls in the team. We know they will try their best and represent our whole community spectacularly! Come on you Little Green Hornets!
We asked Year 6 children to think about Golden Time and how they could make it even better. They reported that it sometimes felt just like another lunch time and they didn't really achieve anything. They wondered if they could do something more purposeful and we agreed on the idea of some projects that they could choose, organise and run, supported by the Year 6 teachers. I was absolutely thrilled to observe Year 6 Golden Time on Thursday afternoon where all of the children had identified something they wanted to do and had then worked out how to make it purposeful and positive. Clubs from a football league to gardening to Scratch programming to art and dance are now happening in Year 6 and we hope to expand this approach to other years into the future. Well done to the whole Year 6 Team for trailblazing this project-based learning approach and building a legacy for future Little Green members.
We've had a few amazing entries to this competition but would love a few more. Jessica and Bonnie are raring to judge so please do make something from your recycling and get a picture in! admin@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk
It was inspiring to see so many children working as a team and taking the time to support their class in the TT Rock Star Competition. This was especially so, as it was held during the holidays. Congratulations to the winners 5H and well done for everyone who tried their best - incidentally, you may have memorised a few more timestables!
In Science, our topic is Earth and Space. To help us understand the size of our Solar System, 5H were set a task to calculate a scale in which they could fit the Sun and all the planets on to our school playground. First, we needed to find out what the diameter of each of these planets was in km, then we divided each measurement by 10,000 to get the new measurement. Finally we used this information to calculate the radius. Using the radius measurement, we measured out a piece of string for each planet. These were then used to draw them onto the playground.
Year 6 Macbeth Debate
In Year 6 we are currently working on discussion texts - should Macbeth murder King Duncan?
Modern Art in Year 6
In Year 6 last week we continued looking at Modern Art, this time exploring surrealism. We looked at artists such as Dali, Magritte and Ernst and the children voted on their favourite piece to sketch. A particularly popular piece was 'The Idea' by Magritte.
We had the pleasure of welcoming schools from Years 5 and 6 - across the local cluster of schools - to share their learning and also ensure we agree in our judgements about what Age Related Writing looks like. Our Year 3 and 4 teachers had a similarly positive experience at Arnett Hills - thank you to Holly Butcher for organising this for all of the schools in our consortium. A quick review at the end highlighted the huge positives all of the staff felt in coming together, in person, for the first time in years, supporting each other with accurate judgments and, more importantly, sharing good practice and ideas. As a consortium of 16 local schools, we look forward to returning to more collaborative discussion and debate benefiting all of the children - we are stronger together!
On Wednesday the children in Year 3 had a Stay Active session with the School Sports Partnership. There were six stations with different activities. Four of the stations focused on Golf skills and the other two stations focused on throwing with accuracy. Everyone had a great morning on the field exercising!
On Thursday, Little Green played three league matches against Yorke Mead, Rickmansworth Park & Harvey Road in a round robin format to decide the winners of the Rickmansworth Partnership League.
The team got off to a rocky start in their first two games, conceding tries within the first minute of both matches. After finding themselves behind in both games, they showed great team spirit and perseverance to work their way back into the games, winning 5-3 against Ricky Park and drawing 2-2 against Yorke Mead.
The final game against Harvey Road was another challenge, but the team started the game quickly and played extremely well, scoring 3 tries in the first half. After an epic second half where both teams scored 3 tries, Little Green ended up winning the game 6-3 and finishing as League Winners on 7 points.
Last week, Year 5 trained with the School Sports Partnership to become Play Leaders. The children worked very hard to think about all of the qualities that would make an effective leader of play on our school playgrounds. They then devised a game that they then guided our lovely Year 3 buddy classes to try out. We all had a lovely time creating new games and working together.
Here is the latest guidance for living with covid. Note:
No. From 1 April, anyone with a positive COVID-19 test result will be advised to try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for five days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice will be three days.
Do report your children's positive cases here:

As we continue the transition to living with Covid, I am pleased to report, again, that our Covid numbers have remained low since our return. We currently have 0 staff and 0 pupil tested positive!
