We learnt about and celebrated St George's Day on Monday and considered the legend and the facts. Thank you to National Heritage for their fascinating insight into the real St George! https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/whats-on/st-georges-day/9-things-you-didnt-know-about-st-george/
It was useful to reflect on what we thought we knew and then what we really knew once we had done some research.
The children saw links between this idea with gossip on the playground: don't believe everything you hear, and also rushing in our learning: check your working out - don't assume you know it.
This got us talking about the question of knowledge - how do we know anything? How does this link to being excellent? Below are the 9 interesting facts about St George:

We were absolutely delighted to host Paralympic gold medallist, and now author, Ellie Robinson to Little Green today. She inspired the children with the story of how she built up to winning her gold medal in Rio, and emphasised the idea that she had to have some knockbacks along the way. In fact, her favourite medal was a silver medal: this taught her it was okay to fail and drove her on to even better things!
Ellie shared the first chapter of her book and helped the children to come up with some of their own ideas for a sports-based mystery. Children also got to have a hands-on experience with a real gold medal!
Over 90 copies of the book were sold this time. Thank you to all the families who purchased a copy of the book - it is through these book sales that we are able to consistently offer such great author visits.
Year 6 SATs and PGL Information
Mr Hyde welcomed Year 6 parents to an information morning on SATs. As a school we work hard to prepare children for the realities of a testing regimen whilst ensuring they understand that they can only 'try their best!' Our focus is always on engaging high quality learning experiences and opportunities that will help children to thrive in their futures. In a sense, we do not teach 'to the test', we teach beyond the test!
Teachers being Excellent!
It is a pleasure to report that Ms Muckell, Ms Gay, Ms Tarbox and Ms Marriott have all successfully completed their National Professional Qualifications. CONGRATULATIONS! These qualifications are a a significant time and effort commitment on behalf of the teachers to improve their own practice for the children and the school community. We have benefitted from their extra knowledge throughout this year and we look forward to seeing how they can further impact on the whole school's learning journey. We have six more staff completing 18 month NPQs in senior leadership - all working hard to be the best we can be!
An amazing display of Little Green Students Art Work at the ART CAFE!
Re: Coronation Celebration: Friday 5th May
Little Green and Malvern Way will be having a ‘Red, White and Blue Day’ on Friday 5th May to celebrate the King’s Coronation. The children will complete some coronation activities and learn about the history and significance of the day, as well as enjoying a (pre-ordered and pre-paid) celebratory lunch.
We look forward to seeing you all in red, white and blue next Friday!

FOLG second-hand sports kit marketplace
We are really excited to announce that FOLG is setting up it’s own online marketplace for parents to donate and buy second-hand sportswear and equipment on a new community based app called "Grassboots". With most donations priced between £1.00 to £5.00 it provides a fantastic opportunity to buy preloved kit for amazing value, especially during these difficult times. So, to join up, please go to your App store and download the “Grassboots.Club" app. When registering, link to Little Green School (FOLG) and you’re then good to go. Once an item is bought, contact the donater via the in-app messenger to arrange a collection time at the school gates...easy! This community focussed initiative gives the school and parents a great opportunity to recycle more, reduce waste and the majority of every sale goes towards fundraising targets for FOLG... so please join up and start donating and buying!
For more information please go to: www.grassboots.club or Facebook / Instagram @grassboots.club
