Week 34 24.06.22 Celebrating Sporting Achievement

Sports Awards - Super Saturday!

We had a very successful week of sport last week which culminated in the parents-named 'Super Saturday' where both our girls football teams reached the final of the Orchard Tournament and Year 3 Push ballers claimed victory at the Revels. On Monday night the Girls Football Team were presented with the Key Stage 2 Team of the Year award for their incredible run of victories and achievements. this year. We also celebrated the success of other Little Green students - see the website for more information and pictures! https://www.littlegreen.herts.sch.uk/ Last Thursday, we won the Rounders and on Friday the Tennis! Yesterday we won the Handball! In assembly, the children and I researched what might be the secret to our successes this year and the children thought the following:

Teamwork, Supporting each other as a team, Consistent Practice, Encouraging Community, The people in the teams train very hard, Working as a team, Mr Rivers teaches us very well, We practice and spend lots of time learning the skills, Everyone is encouraging each other, Practicing a lot, Working as a team, Working together, trying your best, not just luck - it's motivation, positivity. Being in it to win it! We have supportive teachers and they help us learn the sports and skills, determination, sportsmanship, trying our best and having fun, Team work! Having the will and positivity to win, developing our confidence, encouraging each other, the intentions they ate for breakfast, we are now giving lots of opportunities for more children to take part, good support!

That's not a bad child testimony and translates nicely to the current school ethos words:

Community Wellbeing (Teamwork and sportsmanship and everyone is encouraging each other)

Attitude to Learning (Trying your best, determination, the will, training very hard, practice)

Powerful Knowledge (we are taught very well, teachers help us learn sports and skills)

We will be reviewing the ethos over the coming year and look forward to more conversations and discussions about how best to communicate and develop our values and beliefs as actions as well as words.

Student Council Forum - Local Schools Learning Together

Little Green had the honour of leading the Student Council Forum for the sixteen local state schools. On Wednesday Mr. Brailsford and Mr. Roberts walked the 18 Cabinet members to Watersmeet to celebrate the amazing environmental learning of all of our local partner schools. We were treated to three engaging presentations from Kirsty Yearsley of Herts Catering's Sustainability Team, Elen Roberts of the Three Rivers Sustainability Team and Helen Cox, of Croxley Danes and Green Croxley. Special thanks to Charlotte Gomes and Three Rivers District Cou8ncil for supporting the event. The children were able to share their ideas, question elected District Council members and democratically elect the best Eco Project this year - Congratulations to Arnett Hills! A special thank you from me to the 18 cabinet members who shared Little Green's Green efforts so well and also brought back some great ideas to leave as a legacy for next year. An even bigger thank you as we chose to environmentally walk there and back - it was hot but there were no complaints. Well done the Cabinet for representing your parliament and school so effectively. See the image below of them receiving their certificate with the Chair of Three Rivers District Council for 2022/23 is Cllr Debbie Morris.

On Tuesday, a team of Year 4 children went to compete in the District Mini Red Tennis competition with the winners going through to the Hertfordshire County Final. Lydia, Harriet, Rory & Adam played matches against 3 other schools in the group stage, finishing as group winners and advancing through to the semi-finals.

A victory against local rivals Yorke Mead in the semi-final, winning all 4 of their games sent the team through to the final against Arnettt Hills. A fantastic final performance, with the team scoring 35 out of a possible 40 points, gave them the victory and meant they finished the competition in 1st place!

Well done team Little Green and we can't wait to see how they get on against the best schools in Hertfordshire in July!

On Thursday, Little Green competed in three Rounders league matches against Yorke Mead, Harvey Road & Ricky Park to decide the Rickmansworth Family league winners for this year.

The first game was against Ricky Park and the team played incredibly well. In their 2 batting innings they scored 19.5 rounders while Ricky Park only managed 7.5 rounders after some great fielding from Little Green.

The second game against Yorke Mead was a lot closer with the teams only separated by half a rounder at the half-way point. Little Green had a strong 2nd innings both batting and fielding and ended up winning the game by one rounder, 9.5 - 8.5.

The team's final game against Harvey Road saw Little Green bat second, meaning they were chasing whatever score Harvey Road were able to get. Some great fielding by Little Green meant Harvey Road were only able to score 5.5 rounders across the two innings. After only three batters in the 2nd innings, Little Green were able to score 6 rounders and win the game as Harvey Road were not able to score any more points.

A fantastic event, with a massive thank you to Yorke Mead for hosting; the team are really looking forward to competing in the District Final in July!

On Saturday, Little Green took 2 teams of girls from Years 5 & 6 to the WDPSFA Girls Football Tournament at Haberdashers' School for Girls. The prestigious tournament has been running since 2001 and provided the girls with some incredibly tough opponents from 6 different schools with 10 teams representing overall.

The Little Green teams were both very strong and made up of a mixture of Year 5 & Year 6 girls:

Team 1 - Lilly W, Emily, Aldona, Amelie, Olivia, Naomi (c) & Ava L

Team 2 - Kyla, Millie, Ava B, Isla, Eve (c) & Lily S

The teams' first matches were against Ricky Park & Haberdashers' respectively and saw Team 1 take a 0-0 draw and Team 2 win 1-0 against the hosts. From then on, the floodgates were open and both teams went on a scoring rampage. Team 1 proceeded to win 2-0, 5-0 and 2-0 in their other three games, while Team 2 won 2-0, 6-0 and 3-0 in their games, putting both teams as respective group winners going into the Semi-Finals.

There were some amazing goals in the group stage with 7 different girls getting on the score-sheet, showing the incredible depth of the two teams. The pick of the goals came from Lily S in the 6-0 smashing of Haberdashers' 2nd team where she incredibly scored directly from a corner kick, and a rocket of a volley off the crossbar and in from Olivia in the 2-0 victory over Holy Rood's 1st team.

With both teams in separate semi-finals, if both teams won their games it would be an all Little Green final and that is exactly what happened. Team 1 narrowly beat Haberdashers' 1st Team 1-0 to progress to the final and Team 2 comfortably beat Holy Rood 2nd Team 2-0.

With both teams playing each other in the final, Little Green having their name on the trophy was already secured but both teams still wanted the Gold Medal. The final was a close run game but Team 1 edged it out, with Amelie scoring an absolute worldie into the top corner before Olivia calmly slotted home to seal the 2-0 victory.

Both teams had a fantastic day out and managed to score plenty of goals that put a few of the girls at the top of the scoring charts for the day. The scorers across the day were:

  1. Lily S - 8 goals

  2. Olivia - 6 goals

  3. Naomi - 5 goals

  4. Eve - 4 goals

  5. Isla - 1 goal

  6. Ava L - 1 goal

  7. Amelie - 1 goal

The highlight of the day was seeing both teams go up together and collect the trophy as a group, what a wonderful way to finish off a truly remarkable season for the team.
