Attitude to Learning as a Community
At Little Green. when we talk about attitude to learning, we are talking about 'not giving up', 'having a go', 'I can't do it yet!' '(Hard fought) mistakes prove I'm trying', 'Trying your best!' Today's Newsweb focus is on the many examples of our community's fabulous attitudes to learning and willingness to have a go - just this week. This includes a hard fought mistake from me! The Year 6 children had the opportunity to trial the Year 6 Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) this week and, as a community, we will be supporting the children in learning from their mistakes and driving the message, you can't do it 'YET' to promote a positive attitude to their learning. This week very positive attitudes were displayed and modelled by:
Community Conversation mistakes
Athletes in Year 4 and 6
Parents and Carers in years 4, 5 and 6 attending our Reading Workshop
Staff in Years 4, 5 and 6 trialling our new approach to Parent Workshops
Our first Family Support Worker Led Coffee Morning
Poetry performances
TA feedback on Explorer success - Year 6 Money Sense
Community Conversation Update
So, the conversation plan did not go down well. Sorry - my mistake! (I am trying!)
The plan was:
Reinforce the importance of evidence and reason when we debate ideas.
Create a shared space of reason for our adults to debate ideas that may affect their children.
Of the three responses, feedback has been quite clear -
There are too many words. Sorry - it was quite detailed.
It was thought this was a resource for children - Absolutely not! This is an intended space for adults to share their ideas and be prepared if their children ever do raise these questions. We are truly not keen to expose children to any of these ideas but unfortunately a range of children have access to social media and some are discussing such subjects on the playground. The cat is out of the bag.
The subject matter was too controversial. Sorry! I was hoping to provoke rather than offend.
Please focus on academic outcomes rather than social media observations. We believe focusing on students wellbeing is focusing on students academic outcomes.
So, here's the new idea - what would you like to debate? Click here! I'll share all respectful ideas next week to begin the conversations.
Reading Workshop
It was a pleasure to welcome 76 parents to a shared Reading Workshop with all of our Year 4, 5 and 6 children and staff. We were treated to a model Guided Reading Lesson from Mr Hyde; a range of child testimonials about their development of a positive attitude to learning and parents had the chance to learn with their child in class. Feedback at the door was unanimously positive and we will be sending out a google form to gather more detailed questions and suggestions for the future. Slides will also be available for those unable to attend. It was lovely to see the power of a positive attitude towards learning from a whole community of learners! Thank you!
Athletics - the right attitude!
For the second year in a row, Little Green have managed the massive achievement of being Year 6 Indoor Athletics District Champions for both the Boys and the Girls teams!
The Boys team continued with their success from the semi-finals, winning 5 out of 6 track races and pushing themselves to the limit in their field events for the District Final. They ended as winners by 8 overall points in front of 2nd place St Mary's.
The Girls team were aiming to overturn their position as runners up from the semi-finals, with a few event alterations they managed to equal the Boys results, winning 5 out of 6 track races. A strong improvement on the field events meant they also won by 8 overall points ahead of 2nd place Holy Rood.
Both teams will now aim to try and replicate their amazing success at the Hertfordshire County Finals later in the term. Well Done Team Little Green!!
Grass Roots:
We are really excited to announce that FOLG is setting up it’s own online marketplace for parents to donate and buy second-hand sportswear and equipment on a new community based app called "Grassboots". With most donations priced between £1.00 to £5.00 it provides a fantastic opportunity to buy preloved kit for amazing value, especially during these difficult times. So, to join up, please go to your App store and download the “Grassboots.Club" app. When registering, link to Little Green School (FOLG) and you’re then good to go. Once an item is bought, contact the donater via the in-app messenger to arrange a collection time at the school gates...easy! This community focussed initiative gives the school and parents a great opportunity to recycle more, reduce waste and the majority of every sale goes towards fundraising targets for FOLG... so please join up and start donating and buying!
For more information please go to: www.grassboots.club or Facebook / Instagram @grassboots.club
Stationery sets
If you missed out on ordering stationery sets we have received new stock and will be opening the opportunity to order on PTA events again - the introductory price has unfortunately finished so packs will now be priced at a very competitive £8 (still far cheaper than you can source on the high street!) and can be ordered via: www.pta-events.co.uk/folg.
