We were delighted to welcome the Watford Schools Trust to teach us all about the meaning behind Pancake Day. Much pancake tossing fun was had and we also were able to learn where the name 'Shrove Tuesday' originated. Did you know that shrove comes from shriven - to present oneself for confession confession, penance, and absolution? The underlying theme for the children was the importance of admitting our mistakes and seeking forgiveness. Thank you to Mrs Penny and Mrs Bastable for their engaging hands on learning about Christianity.
Abigail and Willow finally finished making 180 emotion badges for their peers in Year 3 and 4. We will make use of these badges to help children to remember:
We all feel emotions.
Naming them helps us understand them.
Taking time to calm and think helps us keep everyone safe, kind and learning.
Congratulations to Millie! Millie's badge designs for our Reading Badges were very popular in the blind vote with 8 classes selecting her badge as their favourite. The new reading badges will be coming soon!
In Year 3 we had a visit from the Watford School's Trust to teach the children a story all about Jesus and Leper. After hearing the story the children reflected on their values linked to kindness. The children made a person using a lollipop stick with two sides to help remind them about kindness.
Issy and Louise's competition of kindness came to a climax with the draw on Monday. Congratulations to the three children who successfully completed some kindness actions and were drawn! Louise and Issy selected some bags of sweets as the prizes - enough for the winners to share with their class and still have some to take home - very kind!
Thank you to the children and their parents for supporting the competition.
Bullying remains an infrequent occurrence at Little Green because we take a proactive approach to supporting children to understand and act quickly to stop bullying. Working with the children, we have been developing a debating framework and approach which we hope to turn into a positive debating competition in school and beyond. Almost all classes (with two next week) have discussed what effective debating looks like and created a jigsaw to show how each of the elements was important. We took the opportunity to debate the following questions: What is bullying? Why does it happen? What can we do to stop it? We generally agreed with the County acronym of STOP: That bullying is carried out by a person or persons towards another person or persons
Several Times On Purpose.
The children had some very empathic and sensible approaches to supporting themselves and each other should they ever encounter a bullying situation. Take a look at the jigsaw of effective debating approaches created by the children...
The children loved sharing and discussing their favourite books at World Book Day. It was also a real pleasure for Year 6 to join a virtual author visit with Tom Palmer. At Little Green, we LOVE reading!
Little Green have managed to continue their amazing success in Netball! After winning the Rickmansworth Partnership League, they were able to beat all of the other league winners from across Watford & Three Rivers in the District League Finals! Bring on the County!
FOLG second-hand sports kit marketplace
We are really excited to announce that FOLG is setting up it’s own online marketplace for parents to donate and buy second-hand sportswear and equipment on a new community based app called "Grassboots". With most donations priced between £1.00 to £5.00 it provides a fantastic opportunity to buy preloved kit for amazing value, especially during these difficult times. So, to join up, please go to your App store and download the “Grassboots.Club" app. When registering, link to Little Green School (FOLG) and you’re then good to go. Once an item is bought, contact the donater via the in-app messenger to arrange a collection time at the school gates...easy! This community focussed initiative gives the school and parents a great opportunity to recycle more, reduce waste and the majority of every sale goes towards fundraising targets for FOLG... so please join up and start donating and buying!
For more information please go to: www.grassboots.club or Facebook / Instagram @grassboots.club

Just a polite reminder that parents should not be driving into the car park for any reason. Only Blue Badge holders should be accessing the car park. Thank you.
Your Watford Cycle Hub has turned 10 years old – come and help us celebrate on Saturday 11 March.
On 11 March we're celebrating Watford Cycle Hub's 10th anniversary and we're marking the occasion with an afternoon of cycling fun and you are invited to join us.
Over the last decade we've taught countless children and adults to ride for the first time or helped them build the confidence to cycle more. Our affordable reconditioned bikes are in use across Watford, Three Rivers and even further afield. We're proud of the great value repair and maintenance services we offer in our workshops. With the support of our community and cycling friends we've achieved a lot.
So make a date to pedal on down to Watford Cycle Hub in King George V Playing Fields in West Watford (WD18 9QD) just off the Ebury Way and next to Holywell Community Centre. There will be a number of fun challenges to get involved with – including an obstacle course, Cyclocross taster sessions, the inner tube speed change challenge and seeing how many miles we can cover in individual laps of the park. We're also expecting some of our friends to be on hand to talk about what they do and the difference we are all making as cyclists. Our very good friend (and proud cyclist) the Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor is coming to help us cut our birthday cake at 3.00.
The fun starts from 11.00 am and runs until 4.00pm. Our café will be open for refreshments and cake.
We look forward to seeing you and a few of your friends to help us celebrate and make an afternoon of it.
Find out more about the day on our website Anniversary - Watford Cycle Hub, and keep checking our social channels for news
See you on 11 March!
I am writing from Boom, an independent television company in Cardiff who are well known for producing children’s programmes for various broadcasters.
The team are currently casting for a second series of Meet the Experts for Channel 5’s Milkshake which you can watch here; My5 - Meet The Experts - Season 1 - Episode 5 / Sea Life (channel5.com)
It’s a fun, engaging, child-centred television series focusing on children with a real passion or expert knowledge on a hobby or interest.
In each programme, our presenter, Sam Bruce, will learn all about the children’s area of expertise, before surprising them with a treat or challenge that is associated with their interest. This could be anything from riding on a steam train to meeting their idol.
We are looking for outgoing and entertaining children from Hertfordshire and surrounding areas who are 7-8 years old, from a variety of backgrounds, to take part. The programmes are 11 minutes long and the child will be at the forefront of show, therefore we are looking for children who aren’t afraid to talk and share their passion on camera!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at mte@boomcymru.co.uk
